We have 2 old guys on our team (very beneficial at times). One of them was like, "I know who is the voice of the Jolly Green Giant". We didn't write it down, turns out it was the same guy.

Yeah, I think it would be very beneficial to have trivia mavens of all ages if you really wanted to win this thing. At 42 I was oldest on our table (I think) and no one was getting any of the British invasion music questions. Mom or Dad might have though...

I've no idea how someone gets 70 right on that thing. That's 8 or 9 every time. Ridiculous. After the first intermission, it just went off the scale impossible. Still awesome fun.

Re: cy's house of trivia 2014

Those were some TOUGH questions last night! Overall, we all agreed that the questions were more difficult than they had been in the past. I think 1st place beat 2nd by five points, and another four or five points separated 2nd from 3rd (us). Then it was a single-point difference between each of the next several places, including a couple of tie-breakers.

I/we had two complaints about the night. 1) Hilton felt like a sauna all evening. It was hotter in there than at any other event I can remember. 2) While I don't have any problem with the Nadas, it was completely unnecessary to have a live band performing before the contest and during breaks. It was hard to be social during "social hour" when you had to yell at the person next to you.

One of our group had a birthday yesterday and he won a raffle of an autographed football, so that was kinda cool for him. He won something last year, also (some guys have all the luck). I don't think any of the rest of us got any prizes.

Somehow, we ended up with a Cyclone celebrity for each round, which was odd. There was one round where we weren't supposed to have one, but the next table had someone who wasn't supposed to be there. The person who WAS supposed to be there was Lyndsey Fennelly, so she sat with us (helped that she knew some of us as well). I will admit that I didn't recognize any of the other people we had join us at the head of the table, but every single one of them was friendly and willing to help if they could (some did, some didn't).

Congrats to Cy and the Family Clone for their win last night (love that team name)!

Yeah, our oldest is 73 and another guy in his 60's. He totally knew at least 3 or 4 of the British Invasion songs. Including Do the Freddie. Which I am still singing today.

1st timer last night, it was a blast. Hopefully I will get a chance to return next year. Anyone have a guess on how many kegs were cashed last night?

    Our 2014 stack.

Probably not our tallest yet, but it did the job this year (there was another really good one to the south of us but it fell down as they were trying to top it off)

Also got the hard hat signed.

And we finished in the top 10 once again!

I think id agree with both of those complaints. Hilton in general is a fairly hot building.

Im a bit mixed on the music but the audio was probably tuned up too high. In past years did they use speakers on the floor level or the speakers normally used on the jumbotron? It seemed like this year in the front we were getting blasted.

Also this year and last year the trivia definitely ramped up difficulty quickly after the first couple rounds.

As to the other comments about group composition, we also try to balance the age groups, i think you almost have to if you want to do well.

FYI - I can still DO the Freddie! ;)

We would love to be a part of this, but can't talk any friends into shelling out that much on a table. We tried the "free agent" waiting list this year, but never got called. Sigh.

Re: cy's house of trivia 2014

I think our group is all mid 30s to mid 40s, so we aren't that spread out age-wise. But we have a lot of people who know a lot of useless crap. Generally, everyone is able to contribute something at some point. We have been fairly successful since we started playing, so we must be doing something right!

When the 'British Invasion' category came up, I was kind of hoping to have more than a single (IIRC) question from MY era (80s), which was the 2nd British Invasion of pop music. I wanted to hear Icicle Works, ABC, Talk Talk, Tracey Ullman, etc. Oh, well. I am not that well versed in the 60s era music beyond the basics, in spite of what my mom endlessly listened to when I was a kid. We did have an older gentleman (as our celebrity) at our table during that round who knew most of the oldest songs in that category. I never did catch his name as he was on the far end of the table, but I know he single-handedly got two answers right for us.

Re: cy's house of trivia 2014

Our group ended up 52/100. Not bad results considering we weren't trivia savvy or anything. We beat the table next to ours though (Cyclonefanatic's table). I think CW and Co got 82nd? CPR, Baby Mangino, and Jason from The Nada's were our celebrities which was really cool.

I agree, Hilton was hotter than hell. 70 some degrees outside def didn't help the temp inside. I liked The Nada's since they sang happy birthday to one of my teammates.

Cy's House of Trivia is just amazing. Can't wait for next year. Hope we end up top 50% next time!
