    Isaiah Austin's eye...or lack thereof

Am I really late to this party?? I had no idea he had no right eye. Mad props to him for overcoming this disability.

Btw, if anyone didn't see the piece on him on SC you need to.

Re: Isaiah Austin's eye...or lack thereof

I didn't know that either. That is extremely impressive because I'm sure his depth perception is a little off since he only uses one eye.

Re: Isaiah Austin's eye...or lack thereof

My wife asked me why he wore the glasses during the ISU/BU game and I thought it was to avoid getting poked in the eye since you see guys always losing contacts. Saw the piece and realized it was much more. Impressive that he is able to overcome that and play to that level still.

Other than teammates and family, it wasn't really known to others until last Saturday. And nba people too, I guess. Might not be so cool for the students to chant "nice glasses".

How in the hell is he able to play basketball? I am beyond impressed with this kid now.

Very impressive. I know we tease him some, but it seems his game is improving (3 ball especially)

Man, if I were him I'd wear an eye patch. Talk about future marketing potential.

I play pickup ball with a guy with one eye. Really not a big deal according to him and he also wears glasses. Of course, every time he misses a shot he yells ARGH!

maybe after a while you learn to compensate but damn, have you ever tried to do anything with one eye closed? Especially something that takes hand/eye coordination and depth perception. Impressive really.

I've read a lot about eye sight and stereoscopic vision as my son has strabismus which affects how the eyes work together. Very impressive that he can play at the level that he does.
