Re: Roger Goodell wants to end the PAT

Maybe the NFL can allow the defense to select which side the ball is kicked from

I agree with most of what has been said. Is this a big issue? No. It's the equivalent of a layup in the NBA. At the same time, it's part of a larger issue of Goodell tinkering with a game that literally needs no changes.

Moving sounds more fun, because it's obnoxious. Narrower is more practical, easier to put together.
Maybe changing something on the angle as well. At least make the extra point a non-formality.
Maybe something to do with releasing wild animals onto the field before the attempt.

Absolutely. Anything that goes against kickers is something I can support.

Have them make the attempt through a hail of paintball pellets? Sure. Works for me.

Since we are an elite team now, let's go get that One Cyclone Moment.

It's really nothing like a layup in basketball. It'd be more like if free throws were made on average over 99% of the time instead of 75%(just guessing on the average) of the time. Not a perfect comparison obviously since there are many more free throws taken in a season.

Replace the typical football with one that looks identical but is instead filled with sand.

I guess that's what I meant to say. A fieldgoal would be made with about the same consistency as an uncontested layup.

It would be like having an uncontested layup/dunk instead of FTs.

Yeah maybe, but it's not like they stop play and give the ball to someone so they can go make an uncontested lay up even though they know he's nearly always going to make it.

That's far to sensible and easily implemented of an idea to work.

Re: Roger Goodell wants to end the PAT

Let's get crazy - What about awarding a "Drop Kick" two points?

    • Isn't this easier for the offensive team to execute since it avoids snapping to the placeholder (fumbles, laces out, placement, etc)
    • It gives the kicker more freedom to avoid blocked kicks.

Where or where in this did Goodell actually say he wants to abolish the extra point? He said it maybe abolished in the future is all. Terrible headline!

That is a matter of opinion. The NFL is a business. Businesses are constantly looking for ways to enhance their product and draw more customers. That's all this is. So far, all of Goodell's "tinkering" has done nothing but vault the league into record profits and tv ratings. For all the bluster about him "ruining the game" more and more people are watching and spending money to consume the NFL's product. The people who pay his salary have to be very happy with the job he's doing.
