Good advice from Fred and it should be pointed out that people aren't telling ADULT fans to stop bashing players via twitter, but are telling college kids to ignore it when they do.

Pretty damn stupid, if you ask me.
Are we sure they are ISU fans? If they are they are ****ing idiots.

Then it's a smart thing to say. Thanks for the context.

Talking here is one thing. Tweeting it to the player is too much.

I think there's a difference between "bad fans" seeking out players to harass them via twitter or whatever and people who come here and are vocally disappointed with team or player performance.

    Re: "Bad Fans"

You probably should not take comments from people who probably never have competed in sports at a high level too seriously.

If anything they should laugh at it, and make a top 10 list's of the most outlandish comments or something and have fun with it.

I can only imagine what kids are going through at UNC, Kentucky and other places probably 10 times as worse.

Some fans are stupid, really stupid, and if you play sports you have to deal with it. I have seen 12 year old's get called out on the baseball field, fortunately the majority usually shuts up the minority in those situations one way or another.

Yep. Gotta love the ol' "If player X doesn't like the stupid **** I post, he shouldn't read it - in fact, why isn't he in class or practicing in the first place?" argument.

    Re: "Bad Fans"

I understand it's hard for a 20 something year old college kid to not read a forum board. Especially if the topic pertains to them. I could see it serving as a motivational tool as well. I know I personally don't tweet any players, but I know that other people do. That is completely unacceptable. This thread is going to get bad very quickly I think. Bottom line, think before you post because people read this that aren't just Cyclone fans. We don't want our reputation to be a bunch of ****** hiding behind a computer.

Read some of the stuff that has been said on this board about him. I would suspect the majority are fans of Iowa State.

There are some idiot Iowa State fans out there.

A joke like this is the quickest way to tell everyone your opinion is about a decade old and not worthy of conversation.

Big difference between saying something on a message board, and tweeting it to Matt Thomas himself. Huge difference.

Love it - Fred calls out the worst of CF (and beyond). Now I'm waiting for their half-baked defenses of their actions. A few have already showed up here.

I agree, but I also think that you need to think before you lose your **** on message boards as well. We all have moments, but in general it's always good to remember that calling out individual players is never, ever a good thing. And that happens PLENTY on here.

Yeah, let's live in a fantasy world where social media does not exist. That should work.

I see no difference at all. Public personal attacks are not appropriate in any forum.

    Re: "Bad Fans"

One poster suggested not posting anything you wouldn't want your kid to read posted about themselves. My suggestion would be - don't post what you aren't willing to say to someone's face (including that 320 lb lineman...). Anonymity supports cowardice.
