    Wedding suits- Rent or Buy?

With getting married this summer I was looking into some options for myself and my groomsmen for tux rental and buying suits options.

I hate how the rental prices have skyrocketed and are so high for a one days use. Has anyone had any luck with the idea of just have everyone wearing/buying their own suit or where would be a good option to look for that type of deal? I just want everyone to get a little more from their investment.

    Thanks for the help!

Re: Wedding suits- Rent or Buy?

I was in a wedding this last July. The groom bought the groomsmen suits to wear for the wedding. Our gift was then a new suit to wear after. Personally, I can't own enough suits so I loved the gift. He purchased at mens warehouse due to locations across the country (and groomsmen across the country).

Halberstadt's in either Jordan Creek or Valley West mall sells suits for less than they cost to rent. I was in a wedding where we bought suits there. It's nice to have for the future, even if I don't wear suits often.

Think it would be a good idea. Wish I would have done that instead. Not sure if the quality of suits for a wedding is much better than a lower priced suit, but you could look into the BOGO at mens warehouse. You could pick a $300 suit and end up only having each groomsmen $150 and you could buy the shoes as the gift.

I'm in a wedding in March where the groom is doing this.

Was in a wedding where we all bought the same style suits that the groom picked out instead of renting a tux. It worked alright. It was more work for the groom since he had to search for a suit that he liked and could get for a price that would make it comparable to renting a tux. That search took him some time. Also, the groom was a big & tall guy but most of us groomsmen were tall and slender so some of us had to pay for tailoring to make the suits look decent on us.

All in all, I appreciated it since the suit + the tailoring didn't cost a whole lot more than the tux rental would've.

I good buddy got in the the Jos A Bank buy 1 get 3 suits free. He worked out a deal though where it was everyone paying a share of that sale and getting a suit. Got a really nice suit and shirt for like $150, then he paid for the ties.
    Great deal.

Re: Wedding suits- Rent or Buy?

We had all of our groomsmen wear black suits, didn't have to match or be the same style, just black color. Every guy should have one, only one didn't and he was grateful afterward because he said he needed one. All guys wore the same shirt and tie combo, stuff that could be worn later as business and/or formal, and the girls' flowers were made to match the colors of the guys' shirts. All the girls wore black dresses, again didn't have to match, just had to be black.

Even though everyone wore "different" clothing, it was all similar enough in color that very few people noticed, in fact some that did thought we had the girls all get different dresses on purpose. Everyone was much more comfortable in their own clothes, it looked really nice, and saved everyone a couple hundred dollars and the hassle of getting fitted, returning, etc.

Doing this has been my #1 recommendation to anyone getting married. Wife and I have to travel to a lot of weddings and have been asked to be in many, which is obviously an honor, but when you're already spending a ton of money just to get yourself there, getting whacked with another couple hundred so you can rent an uncomfortable monkey suit just plain sucks, and is a huge waste of money. I also give better gifts if I don't have to shell out so much for a tux.

We did the black suit thing. I figured (like Kendall) that every man needs a black suit. We just asked they bring their suit and a plain white shirt. We provided ties and socks.
