    Feature Testing - "Thanks"

Just testing a possible new feature - "Thanks". Users can click on the "Thanks" button in a post to show their approval or support of said message. Each user's member info in posts will show how many thanks they've given and received.

This is just a test feature and feedback will determine if it stays or goes.

Is Karma gone or still testing things out?

Karma is on the back burner - it seemed to cause more problems than it was deemed worth. I've still got the code in the event it ever needs to be brought back but it's dead for now.

That bar/post thing at the bottom of the post that gets "thanked" is kind of annoying, but I like the idea that the poster can tell which post was "thanked".

    Re: Feature Testing - "Thanks"

I just wish there were a way, any subtle way, to give a heart-felt 'thank-you' to all those who chose NOT to pee on my car in high school...its a small group of people, granted, but very hard to pin down.

    Re: Feature Testing - "Thanks"

Regarding Karma, I liked it's short lived life span. Just read the thread in the cave and it seemed that people were getting upset about the neg Karma being seen and people being singled out. I think if it stayed longer and more people were involved with it, it wouldn't have been such a big deal because karma would've been spread around to a lot of people and not have been so noticed. I really don't care if anyone saw that I gave neg Karma to anyone or not or pos either. There definitely is a few people I'd give neg to but didn't want to search for them to just single them out at the beginning, but when I would see a post from them I would have given them that neg Karma. It also seemed a good way to keep track of the members I enjoy reading or don't, because I could see what I have given them. With 4000 plus members it's hard to remember everyone except for the few that post all the time.

As for the thanks. What makes it different than Rep? Every time I wanted to thank somebody I would give them pos. rep. Don't really see the purpose of the Thanks.

This is what I liked about the premise of Karma. It was set to be an eleven-point system, with a cap that kept people on the same field. We all know that people with the highest rep, karma, thanks, etc. will be the same ones. However, everyone is "closer" with the capped system, instead of being able to be "distanced" from those that don't post a lot.

That's kind of why I liked Karma, because Joe Schmo who posts once a week may get a 5 from me, and when I see him post again I can see that's what I gave him and know this is a guy that I like. And the same goes for the ones I don't like. The stats part of it just make it fun.

    Re: Feature Testing - "Thanks"

How bout we get rid of all this "stuff" and just let's post about Iowa State athletics?!?!!!!!! Who the hell cares!!!

I posted several months ago that we should have a 5 star program lie hawkeyenation. No negative reports. Just let it be positive, we're all Cyclones.

If you dont like someone, thats great. I also dont see why people give others positive rep or whatever for just making a simple post.

    VDUB...OUT

    Re: Feature Testing - "Thanks"

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but hopefully we can keep it positive and constructive?

Jeremy is trying to find a good way of giving good feedback on posts. There are a large quantity of members of the board who enjoy knowing when someone enjoyed their post - it doesn't have to be assigned a numerical value or anything, they just like knowing that you liked what they have to say. I think everyone would agree that having something behind the scenes is better than having a 50-page thread of nothing but, "Good post, so-and-so" or something equally inane.

I have disabled "Thanks" at least for the time-being. I agree that there are too many ways of ranking individuals when personally I think all our opinions matter - even though I may be right more than others Just kidding!

Anyways - I'll keep taking feedback and we can figure out what works best without being a nuisance or distraction from everything else.
