He denied it the other day but I guess he`d have a chance to be an actual OC rather than Urban`s sidekick.

Give me Mangino any day over Herman.

No truth to rumors about #OhioState OC Tom Herman leaving for #Texas.

    I'm aware of
#OSU OC Tom Herman-to-Texas rumors. I've been told that a different current college OC is at top of Charlie Strong's list.

    Re: Tom Herman to Texas?

I'm glad we hired Mangino when we did. I bet Texas would have been after him too if Strong was hired sooner. Strong is probably looking for a proven OC with lots of experience since he is more of a defensive minded coach.

That's a weird-*** story right there. Chris Simms has a tattoo of the initials of that Shanahan guy who was his friend at UT? Cripes, maybe I am old.

Please - lets not start comparing who's is "bigger" because I'd have to go with Herman's current program over ours when bragging about success.

He is a glorified puppet for OSU. He doesn't even call the plays and IIRC he is a co-offensive coordinator. He was alright at ISU but I'd take a former national HEAD coach of the year and someone who has had success everywhere he has went as an OC any day over Herman.

That might be a point, but not responding to the post you responded to. Poster stated his preference, not anything close to 'who is bigger'...but honestly, even if someone said that...previous assistant coach of the year and head coach of the year, national championship as an OC, and an orange bowl victory as a head coach far surpasses anything Herman has done thus far. Does that mean ISU>Texas or OSU? No, but you can't argue that as a coach, Mangino has had much more sustained success than Herman has accomplished.

For the record, I'm not in the "Herman sucks" crowd, I think he's a good football mind, but he was not the right fit for ISU. I see Herman as a guy who can blow your socks off with great talent (and might be able to do more with that talent than a lot of others), but I see Mangino as a guy who can take lesser talent to nearly the same level.

I'm surprised Stong doesn't take his current OC at Louisville with him.
