    Tate...

I just wanted to check and see if anyone else saw Tate smack Baum w/the ball while Baum was on the sidelines? No penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct, nothing. Not very mature...

    Re: Tate...

The referees must have not been watching. That is the only way, because it was blatant unsportsmanlike conduct. I do think Baum may have brought it on himself though because if I remember right, it looked like he was trying to purposely get in Tate's way or else he said something to him.

    Re: Tate...

I agree - it did look like Baum was running his mouth.

Remember the Michigan game last year, though, when Tate spiked the ball and started yelling at his own O-line? That may have been a better example.

    Angry Re: Tate...

Baum also tried to start something on the last kickoff. It was embarassing the way he went after Tate on the sidelines -- definitely uncool.

Tate is a punk who read too many of his own headlines. His temper will cost Iowa a win this year with penalty or something like last years ISU game where he does something stupid after throwing an interception.

...Like maybe when they're playing Michigan? After watching them punish ND yesterday, I can't wait to see them frustrate Tate. :)

    Re: Tate...

I will get Tate some credit for not being 100% but still tore apart our secondary. He looked like a man on a mission in the 2nd half. Although the cameras did catch him pouting on the sidelines in the first half when he sat down on the bench and threw his helmet down in anger after a failed 3rd down. He would be so much better if he's keep his emotions in check instead of being such a baby whenever something doesn't go Iowa's way. I will agree with the above posts, Tate's emotions will get to the best of him in a game this season and cost them at least a game.

I'm still not impressed with this Iowa team like some of the Hawk fans seem to think its such a great team. I see them finishing no better than 3rd in the Big 10. They barely beat a terrible Syracuse team and then had their problems with what I think could be a mediocre Cyclone team this year if we don't get it together soon. I'm not trying to knock my own team but let's face it, we have not played 4 straight quarters of good football yet. What worries me is that by the time the young but talented defense matures and grows into its roles, our offense is very veteran heavy and unless their are young guys coming in we'll never get the offense and defense both playing well at the same time.

    Re: Tate...

Baum ran at least 15 yards along the sideline to Jaw Tate as he went out of bounds. Tate then acted like an arse by taunting Baum back. Baum started it and Tate responded poorly. It looked bad that a bench warmer for ISU was Jawing a starter for the other team. The defensive starters on the field were not jawing with tate, they should have told Baum that he can open his piehole when he cracks into the starting lineup.

    Re: Tate...

Thanks for the info, flyhighcy - it definitely didn't show that on TV. I may be biased against him - some of his little rages last season didn't impress me much, so I'm probably more judgmental than I would normally be. The helmet spike and his reaction weren't anything you'd see out of Meyer, but when provoked...

    Re: Tate...

Angie, Bret meyer comes across as a calm and collected gentleman. Drew Tate is a fireball competitor who hates to lose. (I am sure meyer hates to lose too). People like drew tate get hole-in-ones (like last summer charity golf outing) while not being known as one whole golfs much. Drew tate rarely takes his tirades towards opponents. He has lots of tirades but usually they are directed towards himself or deserving teamates. His fire takes the entire Iowa team up a few notches. His fire has performed some huge last second winning plays (see LSU cap one bowl miracle). If I were an opposing team there is no doubt I would not like him. He comes across as arrogant, but in reality ferentz has mentioned that he is terrified of the press and last summer had to take some lessons on how to deal with the uncomfortableness of press interviews. Both teams do not have Terrel Owens. It is a Rivalry with our states two top dogs going toe to toe. There will be some passion in this game. There was and it was great. I remember years gone by when Iowa players used to not even care about the Iowa State game give half the effort and still make ISU look like the school for the blind.

    Re: Tate...

He slammed the ball down against Ohio State.

He needed to chew out his o-line.

He is the leader of the team and a winner his teammates love him and i could careless how angie feels about him.

His temper will win them games too because he is never flat.

    Re: Tate...

watched the replay late last night....tate was awesome (and I cannot stand him)...I hate the hawks more then anyone...but I will give credit where is due to paid in full. Now...onto Texas.

let me do some self-edit here....It's not the graduates of the U that I detest (like my neighbor)...it's the wagon hopper neanderthals who have never sniffed a university...who are the tiger hawk's most obnoxious support...that truly grates on my nerve endings. Met some wonderful examples of these...

That's fine - I never said he wasn't a good player! He's a fantastic player, and he looked great on the field! You don't have to agree with me - I was sharing my opinion. That's all.

    Also - I think you're looking for www.hawkeyereport.com.

Amen! Graduates having passion for their alma mater is one thing. I respect that...back your school! It's those who attended other schools or couldn't get admitted to a unniversity that make me wanna puke. Seems they're
the ones who are always thumping their chests and talk'n Hawkeye trash.
