We can all be happy that the Steelers aren't in the postseason, right?

    Re: Chiefs/Steelers Screwed By Refs

Also note that Mike Pereira, former head of officials and often quoted on Fox, thought it should have been a TD for KC.

Here is a link to replay since no one else will provide it
Mike Pereira Takes Issue With Fake Punt Forward Progress Ruling In Chiefs-Chargers Game | Steelers Depot

"In KC/SD game, linesman ruled the progress was stopped at the 30 before the helmet came off or the ball case loose. I don't agree, " wrote Pereira on Twitter.
"Replay did not stop the game because the of forward progress is not reviewable. Should have a a strip and TD in my opinion."

Btw, just looked up the NFL rule book on loss of helmet during a play. From my understanding the play still has to be blown dead by the official (like incomplete pass or knee/elbow to ground). Since this play had no whistle, like Pereira states, it's not the reason for this play being stopped. The refs really had no clue on that play.

The ball is dead as soon as the helmet comes off.

Any thoughts on the rest of the link that go against the all of your earlier posts?

And do you have a link? And a better link than you could provide for the fumble.
I also thought it was instantly a dead ball but the best link I could find just listed it along with other things causing a dead ball (that require a ref to end the play). For example, what if a ref doesn't see the helmet off? In that case play isn't over "unless" it is reviewed. We know that didn't happen yesterday.

They may have made an error in saying his forward progress had stopped. I think the end result is the same though, if they had been able to review it they'd see the helmet come off before the ball is stripped, as soon as the helmet comes off the play is dead whether there was a whistle or not.

I don't know what happens if the ref doesn't see it but here's the rule as explained by Dean Blandino: “When the runner’s helmet comes off — only the runner — once it separates completely from the head, the play is over. It’s dead. Player safety — this rule was put in a couple years ago. It’s basically just like this runner being down.”

I doesn't matter where the player's at when the ref blows his whistle. It's going to be dead wherever the helmet came off.

EDIT- Dean Blandino is the Head of Officiating for the NFL. Sorry, should have included that.

Here's the embedded video for all to easily see (or not).

Can anyone really tell if helmet comes off before the ball is in the arms of 57 (32 then takes it from him). I wouldn't know what to call it if I had all day to review it, but it sure as hell wasn't forward progress stopped at the 30 yard line as the refs called (without any whistle or play stoppage)

yeah, but forward progress is not reviewable by rule, is it? Doesn't matter if it's right or wrong, once forward progress has been called, there can't be a fumble.

to me it is either he was stopped short of the first down or it is a fumble. Not as cut and dry as 3True would like it to be. But oh well.. It is almost exactly like the Texas game if you ask me.
