    Wanted-Table Saw

    Hey CF folks-
I am looking for a table saw. I recently got into woodworking and have decided it is time to invest in a table saw. I really don't have much to spend on it. $200 would be the top of my budget. I'm just hoping somebody has one that they aren't needing anymore and would be willing to part with for that price. Thanks in advance!

I got one for about that from Lowes that was pretty decent. It has a collapsible stand which makes storage easier. Not sure where you live, but check craigslist.

    Re: Wanted-Table Saw

You have an idea of what you're looking for? Cabinet saw, contractor, more of a table top?

I have a craftsman 10". It would be considered a table top, but has legs and such. I'd part with it for far, far less than $200 - like drop the second 0 less. Well - that might be bit low. But nowhere close to 200

So if you're not aiming high to start.

    Craigslist maybe?

While on live TV, Ford used a vulgar term to describe a private part of the female anatomy, adding that he was “happily married” and “got more than enough to eat at home.”

Table top would be fine to start with. I can build a stand for it. Where do you live? I'm very interested in this.

Not to poach on a guys sale here or anything but if you actually want to do woodworking get on craigslist and look for a contractors saw. You'll make one project with that benchtop saw and wish you never bought it. I made that mistake and it didn't take long before I sold it and bought a new rigid saw from home depot.

I'll actually agree with this. That's why I also bought my Rigid (and why I can get rid of this one). A table top isn't bad at all for small projects though. Or a second saw if you want crosscuts and simpler work. But don't kid yourself about ripping sheets of plywood unless you really build it out.

FireFighter - I'm in WDM. I'll try and send you a link of what it's like.

    Re: Wanted-Table Saw

Yeah I've heard contractor saws are better. I'm looking into those currently, but if I can get a cheap table top for now I'll be okay with that.

    Re: Wanted-Table Saw

    Firefighter,

FYI, I do a lot of woodworking (hobby). IMO, I would be patient and look for one on Craigslist. Look for an used Delta as first choice: Rigid, Jet, Grizzly would be OK for second choice. Stay away from the Craftsman and off brands. Stay away from the big box store stuff if at all possible. You may need to move up to about $250, but with patience and keeping an eye on surrounding towns, odds are pretty good. FYI, I bought a very nice 10" Delta at a garage sale in Ankeny a few years ago for about $225 (seller was moving out of state). I turned around and sold it for $250 when I bought my new cabinet saw a couple years ago.

I'd rather have a circular saw than a table saw personally. If I had to choose.

I have a circular saw but it's very difficult to rip long pieces of plywood with it.

Oh ya I could definitely see that. If I was doing a ton of those, I'd get a second person.

I want a table saw ... and a workshop in which to put it. I like my house (recently moved), but I have NO ROOM FOR ANYTHING.

We just moved too, and this house is the first time in my life (minus growing up) that I have had a garage.
