When and how did you learn that there wasn't a Santa Claus, Easter Rabbit, etc

I read about Santa in the World Book Encyclopedia in second grade. It described him as mythical so I looked up the meaning of mythical and decided he wasn't real. Announced this to my classmates.

Mom and dad's phone starting ringing before I even got home from school.

Re: When and how did you learn that there wasn't a Santa Claus, Easter Rabbit, etc

I remember around 1st or 2nd grade having a big discussion amongst the young kids at the front of the bus about how we compared our santa and easter bunny experiences, and that allowed us to determine that santa wasn't real but the easter bunny probably was real. Then we went back to shooting each other with rubber bands

My sister is 3 years older than me. She ruined the magic for me far too soon when she recruited me to search for x-mas presents with her.

I apparently told my whole kindergarten class Santa wasn't real, and was then dragged out into the hallway and my mother was called. C'mon fellow 6 year olds, use your brain!

Re: When and how did you learn that there wasn't a Santa Claus, Easter Rabbit, etc

don't know when I figured out Santa Claus wasn't real, but I remember the other two.

Easter Bunny I figured out when "he" left us a note and began it with " To the W- children". The W was exactly like my mom's W, so I caught on her on that.

Tooth Fairy was discovered one morning as I ran into the bathroom to tell my mom that the Tooth Fairy hadn't left me any money the night before! Mom was brushing her teeth and went "oh ****, I forgot".

I was the oldest child though, so I had to pretend for a couple more years for the younger kids. That really sucked. I had to help fill and hide Easter eggs, but I didn't get to find any

They had a close call with "Santa" one time. My younger brother was digging for snow clothes in a utility closet before Christmas one year, and found some presents that said "to: brother from: Santa". They explained it away saying that Santa can't get to all the houses in one night, so he brings some ahead of time.

My son never believed in Santa but totally believed in the Easter Bunny and Tooth Fairy.

Re: When and how did you learn that there wasn't a Santa Claus, Easter Rabbit, etc

I probably believed longer than others did because we had 2 different Christmas parties to go to and the same guy was hired to play Santa at both of them. He also was good friends with my parents and both sets of grandparents, so he knew a lot of things about me, which he mentioned when handing out gifts.

I'm not really sure when I realized the gig was up, but I know I didn't say anything because I'm the oldest of my siblings and wanted to make sure the Santa gravy train kept on a-rollin'.

I'm very curious when my boys will figure this out. My 6 year old is pretty smart so I'm guessing it will be within the next year or two. My 4 year old is more of a dreamer but his brother, the know it all, will probably ruin it for you.
