My wife could do better than 2 for 12 because at least she would shot fake. That guy was hilarious. I'm sure their administration won't find him as funny though. Thanks for posting this.

Sounds like there is no respect either way between coach and players.
I'll put that 100% on the coach. If he thinks handling college kids is like training a puppy he needs to find a new occupation.

Re: Epic rant by Southern Ill coach

That first minute is the rant of a fool.

Edit: Listening to more, he just gets more ignorant.

It's a shame that he apparently can't relate to humans. Maybe coaching is just over his head. I'm sure he'll have the opportunity to evaluate his career prospects pretty soon.

Re: Epic rant by Southern Ill coach

You know, we complain about "coach speak" after a bad game, and we laugh at melt downs (especially when Pellini melts down)...

But in all truth, I'd rather have our coach (whichever one) be non-specific in a post-game and deal with the players privately than bad-mouth them in a press conference.

I don't get how you think this will motivate a group of 18-22 year olds. Berate and belittle them, then expect them to give their all for you? Although, I think after Pat Knight's rant a few years ago his team went on to win their conference.

    Weeeeellllll...it worked...sort of...
(note the record the following year)

Somewhat different circumstances as well...his team had a 17-11 record after that game, so they weren't on quite as bad of a losing streak.

    From Wiki:
On February 23, 2012 during a post-game press conference which followed a 62-52 loss to Stephen F. Austin State University, Knight berated his team's seniors saying that, in his opinion, they are the worst group of seniors he's ever coached. [20] The Lamar squad went on to win the final 3 games of the season and the Southland Conference East Division Championship. Though Knight never apologized for his comments, he said that he was proud of the way his seniors responded after the criticism. "They're the ones that deserve the credit," coach Pat Knight said. [21] Knight led Lamar to its first 20 win season since 1988 and a 3rd place finish in conference. Lamar would go on to win the Southland Conference Tournament and earn their first NCAA appearance since the year 2000. Lamar qualified to play one of the "First Four" opening round games; but, lost to Vermont. In a post game interview, Knight tearfully complimented his seniors, calling them the "under-the-bus-gang," referring to his earlier criticism of them. The following season, after those seniors graduated, Knight led Lamar to a 3-28, a .107 winning percentage season in 2012-13.

And actually a really really good coach. He had really tough teams at Mizzu State. They had an RPI of like 18 one year, and didn't get a bid.

Lowery, who was one of the names thrown out when chewey got the job, decimated that program. He brought in a bunch of bad character kids, and beat them down. They were in the Sweet 16, and almost beat KU, and 4 years later they lost 20+ games.

He has taken over a trainwreck, and had them playing decent bb at the end of last season. He will get that turned around if they give him time to do so

Not because of that rant hes not. I give him credit, for as angry as he seemed, he kept that 5 minute rant about as PC as anyone could.

    Agreed.

Through a former job, I ended up eating dinner and watching the 2002 NCAA MBB Championship with Coach Hinson down in Atlanta. He didn't make the tourney that year, but it was really interesting to hear some of his stories.

Some kids don't respond well to harsh criticism. You have to build them up if you're going to tear them down.....earn their respect, then they won't want to let you down.
