Steve Alford rear-ends car in game day traffic

    Funny story...

As I was coming in on Dubuque Street in Iowa City for the ISU vs. Iowa show down traffic was backed up because of an accident. As I got to the actual accident I noticed a nice Escalade crumpled with the air bags deployed and about four cars in front all crumpled too. I looked at the peoplel standing next to the accident and low and behold was the mighty Steve Alford and his enterage which I'm assuming were recruits.

I couldn't stop laughing at the irony as all these Hawkeye fans were driving by...that's gotta hurt the Iowa basketball budget.

Re: Steve Alford rear-ends car in game day traffic

Didn't that car know enough to get out of the way of the great Steve Alford? I'm surprised he doesn't have people carry him around on a litter or something. Maybe his ego is too heavy.

I heard a little bit about this on WHO Sound-off, I didn't see anything about it in the Register this morning

Yeah... I think his ego was in the car ahead of him, and he was trying to catch up.

I would love to hear the reason why it wasn't his fault.

This was finally printed in the CR Gazette today.

    Alford cited after 4-vehicle accident

IOWA CITY — Iowa men’s basketball coach Steve Alford was cited for
failure to maintain control in a four-vehicle accident at 7:35 a.m.
    Saturday.
    Alford, 42, was driving
a black Cadillac Escalade southbound on Dubuque Street near the I-80 exit when his vehicle rear-ended a Chevrolet Blazer. The Blazer rear-ended a Mitsubishi, which in turn hit another vehicle. There were no injuries in the accident.
Police officials declined to release other drivers’ names. Iowa associate sports information director Steve Roe said Alford would not comment about the accident.

Re: Steve Alford rear-ends car in game day traffic

Steve caused a 4 car pileup? NO WAY. YES WAY.
The one Blazer must have just stopped too quick. Besides Steve was too busy talking out of the other side of his face. Well, so much for those Hawkeye contributions - probably with higher car insurance and deductible, someone's 10 k contribution was money well spent. They have deep pockets since they are in the Big Ten. Hope he does not have to tell the parents how well he will take care of their kids at Iowa City.

Re: Steve Alford rear-ends car in game day traffic

Oh my God, were any of the recruits hurt? I would revoke Alford's Iowa license for a year. Just because he drives an Escalade doesn't give him the right to bang the recruits.
