Wow. I think college coaches are finding out the NFL is not what they expected it to be.

    Great get for Arkansas though.

The best nfl coaches are ones who have been in the league for a while and worked their way up. College is a completely different game

Ugh...I swear it gets uglier every day to be a Falcons fan. It's not like he did anything at all, but this coaching carousel wears on me...

I totally agree. The number of college coaches who have gone to the NFL and failed is almost too many to mention. Same goes for college bball to NBA.

Re: Petrino leaving ATL for Arkansas

Its official, ESPN just said that he resigned and has taken the Arkansas job. Yeah I agree, a lot of coaches should stay in college ball. There are so many things that are different.

Re: Petrino leaving ATL for Arkansas

I hate it when college coaches do this in the NFL/NBA but Petrino gets a pass here. The Vick thing completely ruined any chance of him being successful in Atlanta. He had no chance to win there for atleast 2 more years and by that time he would be fired. Might as well get out and take a college job in the best conference in America.

Re: Petrino leaving ATL for Arkansas

Michael Vick set that franchise back at least 2 years...probably more.

I blame that mostly on him but some goes on the owner for having the future of the franchise on one man's shoulders.

Aren't most teams like that, especially with the QB position. Maybe not to that extreme, but it just hurt worse because the Falcons weren't all that good even when Vick was there. You take away their best playmaker and you got nothing. Would Green Bay being this well offensively without Farve, maybe. How about Tampa Bay and Garcia.

    Petrino to Arkansas

Petrino resigns from Falcons; will coach at Arkansas - USATODAY.com

That's about as good of a hire as you can expect Arkansas to make.

Re: Petrino leaving ATL for Arkansas

I think Rodgers showed he could manage the GB offense against Dallas. Now that was one game, but most guys crumble in that situation - big pressure game against a very good team, their first real NFL action, etc.

With all the weapons on the Cowboy offense, I think Brad Johnson (ugh) could drive the bus. Not near as well as Romo - but they would not fall apart.

And it's not just missing Vick that has killed the Falcons - it's everything that is going on. The questions, pressure, scrutiny, etc. Now their first year coach has decided to bail...the day after the owner gave him a ringing endorsement on MNF...a game the team was getting embarrassed by a team that isn't that good. Petrino is still there if Vick is the QB, IMO.

If you're the Falcons, what else can go wrong?

    Not much.
