I'd like just a little credit

I was supposed to take my wife on a date this afternoon and had the DVR all set up to record the game. The babysitter never showed up (no explaination, still ******), so we ended up taking our three daughters to see Frozen. At the drive-in. It's 45deg and raining in western WA and we were going to watch a Disney movie at a drive-in. We left the house with 14 minutes left in the 4th quarter, soon after WVU answered our TD to make it 38 - 21. My wife asked if I wanted to DVR the rest of the game, and I thought to myself that if I record it the 4th quarter will go just like the first three and we'll lose 56 - 21 or some damn thing. If I don't record it, we'll put it out. Needless to say I told her not to record it so that we'd have a chance.

We pulled into the McDonald's for an early dinner before the show and my wife's phone was lighting up as scores were coming in. I asked her to check the final on our game and she said she couldn't find it. Suddenly she gets a funny look on her face and tells me its tied at 44 in overtime. She sat down with the girls as I did my husbandly duty, waiting for the tray. When I got to the table she told me we'd won and apologized that we hadn't recorded the game. On the contrary, I feel as though I did my part to give the Cyclones every chance they needed to win. Like they say on the beer commercials, "It's only wierd if it doesn't work."

    Go Cyclones.

You can spend a lot of time and money picking out the perfect floral bouquet for your date ... but you're probably better off checking if you have bad breath and taking the porn out of the glove compartment.

The moral: you gain more by not being stupid, than you do by being smart. Smart gets neutralized by other smart people. Stupid does not.

In that case, I respectfully request you never, ever DVR a 4th quarter again. Ever.

Re: I'd like just a little credit

This always happens to me, too. If I turn on the game the opposition immediately looks like the '85 Bears (football) or the three-peat Bulls (basketball). If I turn it off they might have a chance. It doesn't always work but often enough it makes me wonder.

I was at every home game this year except KU.

I did watch most of the OSU game in 2011 but did take a break in the 2nd half to take the dog out. However, that was my birthday so the football gods obviously provided a special dispensation.

I agree - it's only weird if it doesn't work.

Edit: Forgot to state that I turned the game off at about the end of the 1/2 after about 10 minutes of terrible glitching (both audio and video) on FS1 on my cable reception.

Well there must have been more of us giving positive mojo than negative. I changed shirt part way through the third quarter. I even announced that this should change things.

Me too as this was te first game I did not DVR this season. I watched the entire game though.

Overall, it was a great day for college football. Many great games!

    I didnt yell at t.v.

As far as depth goes though, the combination of White, Woodbury, Olaseni, Basabe, and Uthoff is much better than Niang, Ejim, Edozie, Gibson. Not because of the top 2, but because of the next 2 or 3. -DeanVogs

Re: I'd like just a little credit

I had to take my wife out to dinner last night, so I hit the record button on the DVR. The only problem was when I went to watch the game the recording ended with 3 minutes to go in the game.

    Don't judge.

Re: I'd like just a little credit

My wife wanted me to stop watching and turn off the dvr when they were down 31 - 7. I told her that I am a 'true Cyclone fan' and will always watch right up to the end - which I did and didn't regert it. Since she has no clue about football it was kind of nice that she came in and watched and cheered even louder than I did the entire 4th qtr into OT.

Cyclone fan since 1964 and proud of it!

Just after the second half started, we turned over to Everybody Loves Raymond and watched two episodes. My idea - I had enough of the game and they were two of the best episodes. Turned back just in time to see ISU start their drive to tie it. Surprised me!

I can go you guys one better. I was commenting on CF in the game thread and elsewhere, and once it got down to nitty gritty time very late in the fourth, I logged out, shut down my laptop, closed the lid, and intently watched the rest of the game.

I had to go through the rest of the game thread later, just to catch up with what people had said. I still haven't found the comments about the OT TD pass to Coleman yet.

Have to say, when I saw CPR's face before half-time, I had to look away. He looked like a whipped pup.

So bravo, to you, Sir, and your team, way to wrap this up and make us forget the heartbreak of the weeks previous!
