Renaldo Rodriguez-Spencer officially became a Cyclone today. He won the New York Division II title at 132 pounds last year, going 48-0 and was the NHSCA folkstyle champion at 138 pounds. He will likely be a 141 pounder at Iowa State. D1Wrestling.net has him as the #56 overall recruit in the 2014 class.
Not sure if we'll have anybody else for the early signing period, but we have at least one other top 100 recruit who has verballed to us.
And he's got some upside since an elbow injury prevented him from competing at Fargo this summer.
Plus it's always important to remember that wrestling is not a headcount sport so there is a lot more going on than just whether or not a guy gets an offer. Almost everybody is brought in on a partial scholarship so not all offers are created equal. ISU is fully funded so KJ doesn't have to juggle total amount of cash like a lot of other coaches. But to get a guy out of say, Ohio, he might have to offer a 0.8 scholarship to match in dollars a 0.3 scholarship offer from an instate school. Since what matters isn't the percent of what is covered. What matters is the bill that is leftover.
