Re: If we fire Messingham what type of OC could we get?

Anyone who could give our offense an identity. 5 years of CPR in Ames and what type of offense do we run? Spread? West Coast? Read Option? Pistol? Run-First? Pass-First? Nobody knows. Let's find somebody who can give us an identity. We are the laughing stock in all other circles of the Big 12, who mock ISU's offensive ineptitude. Even in our 6-7 seasons, nothing works consistently, because quite frankly, we don't DO anything consistently. Messingham is flipping through the playbook with his eyes shut, and picks the play he stops at when his eyes open.

Well then, we're ****ed offensively. And ticket sales will suffer.

The first time I ever saw the "look over to the sideline" from the LOS was when Kansas ran it under mark mangino.

They were awesome when they were doing it. Mangino knows offense.

Dan Mullen? He may be fired at season's end.

Since we are an elite team now, let's go get that One Cyclone Moment.

    Perfect.

Someone where everyone watching or in the stands doesn't know what's coming on 3rd and 1. And I thought Messingham said last year that he was going to have the quarterback under center for those type of plays? He said it bothered him when Herman called those plays.

Re: If we fire Messingham what type of OC could we get?

Someone young who can relate to young guys and recruit the hell out of places we need to recruit. Someone who knows how to teach, encourage, build up and develop 2* and 3* talent. Someone who will take the heat, instead of deflect it on to others. Someone who can stand up to this strong willed head coach and fight for his ideas and his system and the autonomy to run it the way it's supposed to be run. Someone who believes in fundamentals and will practice a play, a formation, a series until it is done to perfection... and then do it again. Somebody who knows how to get into a rhythm and keep doing something until the damn defense proves they can stop it. I don't care if this guy is so good he is only here 2 or 3 years.

Innovative young coach who recruits well and runs a pass-first wishbone offense with constant motion to change formations.

Re: If we fire Messingham what type of OC could we get?

Who's the OC at N. Illinois? The Huskies have the 4th ranked offense in the country per ESPN.

    Could we hire him?

Edit: His name is Bob Cole. Anyone in the know about this guy besides running the 4th ranked offense in BCS?

I know he has a QB who can play and that makes a lot of difference.

    I'd like to see Balance

I would be leary of Mumme since he was fired as head coach at Kentucky due to NCAA violations.

I would like an offense that is balanced run/pass and combines under center/shot gun formations. I think it is easy to fall in love with offenses that throw 50x a game, but most of those teams lose more than they win. They just put their defense on the field too much. What Leach did at TT is the exception, not the rule for teams that don't recruit from a large instate base.

IMO CPR needs to focus on an OC who can develop an O-line. I also think the defensive coaches need to re-evaluate recruiting /development of the front seven. Bend/don't break doesn't work when you can't stop the run.

Here's his bio, which probably doesn't tell a lot. He seems to lack both starz and offerz.

The thing I am most excited about for football season is the search for a new O-Coordinator; although, I am ready to be disappointed.
