    How good is Wesley Johnson?

With how he is playing on one wheel, I have to wonder, what is the ceiling with this guy? He is a long amazing athlete with incredible hops. His jumper is a thing of beauty, which looks great right now, and will only get better as he gets his hops back. As he gets stronger on his leg, he will get to the rack more as well. Very tantalizing to think about the future, or even the near future, with he, Garret, and Brackins!

He is something special... and what is so amazing is how we picked him up so late in the recruiting time line. Props to McD for finding him.

He's amazing, he's ill haha, does have a very nice jumper. I remember last year when we had the Cyclone Alley practice thing like they did this year, Wesley was there after practice with Jean Prileau practicing his one-on-one moves with his pull up J, and his drive to the hoop. his hard work is paying off with a beautiful shot

Umm, I am still not sure why everyone is so gaga over him. Yeah he is the best player on the team, but I think Brackins has more upside than Wes. Don't get me wrong, I love watching him, but I don't think he is the next coming of Grayer, Stevens or Fizer.

Re: How good is Wesley Johnson?

Have you watched him play before, especially this year? Has ISU ever had a player with his length and athletisism that was able to stroke the J like he can? And he is doing it on one foot. And you are not sure why everyone is going 'gaga' over him?

Wes and CB are fairly even in 'upside'. However, Wes has a much, much better looking J.

Yeah I went to a bunch of games last year, and never missed any on tv...He is good yes, but I am just not thinking he is the greatest player at ISU in a long time. Maybe it is the fact that his supporting cast stinks, but I am just not that overwhelmed.

I think many people here underestimate how tough the 18 foot jumper he routinely drains off the dribble is. That is a tough shot for pros, much less college guys.

You're damn right it is! Man I love to watch him shoot. It looked like his overall play was much better too, including his defense.

That's a good sign the foot may be getting better. Some rest before our next game on the 17th will come in handy. I'm also hoping we can put those two teams away we play on the 17th and 19th quickly so he doesn't need to play much then, because we have 4 games in that week with the last 2 in Vegas.

Watch the Lafester game on Cyclones.com and you will see Grayer, Lafester, BJ Armstrong, etc. do it on the dead run multiple times. I'm not saying it is easy - it is a tough shot and he does it well. But I agree with others that he has a ways to go before I would call him complete. His "upside" is tremendous.

I look at him as sort of the opposite of Fred Hoiberg. They both are/were incredibly gifted athletes. But when Freddie first got here, he contantly tried to take it to the rim because he hadn't developed a great 3 point shot. Teams caught on and sagged off of him. Of course we all know that he worked hard on his shot and became deadly out there. Now, Wes needs to do just the opposite. He is deadly from the outside and with the quick pull up jumper. If he can learn to take his man to the rim, he will be unstoppable.

I am a bad and immature man, but I really hate it when people use this expression. I don't how many times I've heard the Sportscenter guys say "He can really stroke it" or "No one can stroke it like he can." Because there are people like me in the world who will construe anything, I vote it should be removed from basketball lexicon altogether.

Re: How good is Wesley Johnson?

What about the tv guy at the Oregon State game? His key to the game for Iowa State was to "Use your Johnson".

I couldn't believe what I was both seeing and hearing. I was sure there was going to be repercussions for that one.
