Re: Rhoads remains high on the future of Nigel Tribune

He's getting beaten pretty good out there right now but it should help him and his future here. For a freshman he has been okay, not as good as a Leonard Johnson in my opinion but decent. Would of rather seen him redshirt. If only Watson was good to go all season. Him and Richardson would of been fine, with Lynne playing backup to either side.

His size and talent is obvious. As a true freshman he has a lot of learning to do, but you can tell he is going to be a good one. Unfortunately he's the only guy on our D at this point that looks like a future NFL player to me.

Re: Rhoads remains high on the future of Nigel Tribune

He's come a long way this season already just from the playing time. I agree that he's one of very few players on our defense who try to play the ball in the air. That's got me hopeful for his future.

I'd have to disagree about looking worse than LJ at this point in their careers, Leonard got burnt plenty as a freshman. He turned out OK though, I guess.

Re: Rhoads remains high on the future of Nigel Tribune

Has improved quite a bit over last 3 games. Think playing a CB as a Freshmen is not as big as issue as playing a linebacker. Better maybe to have had Klein & Knott (but happy they have made it to the NFL - so not near the issue there, just being selfish), so I think it better to not play the likes of Meeks early, but a skill position like CB this year with Tribune & next year with Lazard.

eh, I don't see true freshman from top 25-40 schools get beat like he does. I think Leonard Johnson was our best true freshman DB that we have had in the last 5-10 years. (I think he played as a true freshman?) But then again our DB's have no DL or LB play to help them out.... So maybe he will get better.

You watching all the top 25-40 schools and making note of their freshmen corners? Seems like a lot of work

Leonard was great and more physical than Tribune as a freshmen but Tribune has better coverage skills at this point in his career than LJ as a freshmen. People need to get over the Texas game. Tribune has been solid lately.

It's easy to keep note when you hear it from the announcers calling the game. Then you look at the guys and they look like a senior in college. It's too bad we can't get players like that.

LJ was not great as a true freshman. He took plenty of licks and got burnt a lot.

Then you do not watch much football.
I particularly remember watching Wisconsin & Soujourn Shelton (sp? actual name?). Announcers were going ga-ga over him & how he started as a Freshman. He then proceeded to get torched for 2 TDs. You play at the highest level, you will get burned.

Would still have loved to got him, too. We were in on him early, but then he veered to a different course. Don't think it shows us on his Rivals page now, but early on it was us.

Re: Rhoads remains high on the future of Nigel Tribune

If there is one position that CPR can recruit well and coach well, it is the CB. I'm rarely concerned with what's going on at that position, aside from this year when we're playing a true freshie against future NFL receivers (Mike Davis, Tyler Lockett, Goodley and Reese from Baylor, Eric Ward from TTU etc.). I look for him to come along and be every bit as good, if not better than guys like Ellis Hobbs, Leonard Johnson, and Jansen Watson, all of whom have or will go on to have NFL careers. Throw Jeremy Reeves in there if he were a few inches taller.

What makes you think there would be any guarantees about a RS senior year? How's that going for Kyle Lichtenberg and Ethan Tuftee?

I mean, I say that entirely aside from the fact that if he's that good, he's not going to be around all that long anyway.

Then what happened with Ken Lynn and Matt Thomas that they weren't good enough as a RS JR and RS SO to beat him out? I don't think that has anything to do with it, you hit on some players and you miss on others. Everyone thought Rhoads and co were infallable with LBs and then they recruited J Miller (another player too good not to redshirt) and he hasn't lived up to the expectations. Then in the next class they went out and got Luke Knott, who is looking very good.

Point is, just because a coach had recruiting hits before at a position, doesn't mean that every player he coaches at that position will be awesome and guaranteed to be great.

That being said, I do think Tribune will be a stud and I wish that he could've had an opportunity at a 5th year to lead our defense instead of being the new guy learning his spot by getting burnt.

    1. "Don't redshirt him he is going pro his junior year" talk is the most ridiculous thing I could possibly think of, and I'm sure you agree.

    2. You're going to pull out two random offensive linemen who were injury plagued for your argument? I'll go ahead and triple that on the other end:

    Jake Mcdonough (HUGE year)
Jansen Watsen (TBD depending on injuries, but unheralded guy becoming #1 cover corner his 5th year)
    Terran Benton (at safety)
    Durrell Givens (HUGE year)
Jesse Smith (All Big 12 LBer)
Darius Reynolds (clear cut #1 WR his SR year)

Just to name a few. That is just players who had a much better year their 5th year than their 4th year. Let alone guys like Osemele, Washington, Scott, Broomfield, Woody, Farniok next year I'm guessing, ect that performed before their senior years but get that extra year to really be a leader on the team and be an integral piece to the puzzle.
