That legacy is short lived. If I'm a recruit I'd rather have my name attached to a national title and conference championships instead of turning a 3 win program into a 7 win program. Thats just me. Nobody who follows college football will remember a few kids who turned 1 win Iowa State into maybe 5-6 wins the following season. Lazard goes to Oregon and catches a few touchdowns in the national title game as a freshman, everyone will remember that. Just saying.

I remember when I was in high school football I got recruited a little bit before I had a season ending injury and what appealed to me about schools like Iowa State (I wasn't BCS DI caliber) was the opportunity to have an immediate impact instead of "wasting" two years getting on the field. It wasn't so much that this school has zero tradition and I want to be a part of a new tradition, it was sorta appealing but playing time and relationships with coaches was most important. Followed by fan support.

I wonder if the Rag will ever quit their "you should reconsider your commitment to Iowa State" crusade? Every time I turn around there's another article 'verifying' a recruits status. Hacks.

Good points. You may remember the freshman that caught a TD pass in the NC but it's highly unlikely a true freshman would ever start at a blue blood. Also, fanatics tend to remember the worst games. I've spent 10 years going to ISU games and honestly can only recall specifics of very, very. few games. OSU comes to mind with Woody's touchdown but after that the list is pretty thin. We tend to over emphasize the present and more than likely will forget players or teams fro years past.

For example, the 2005 NC game with Texas was awesome but other than thinking "yeah, that was a good game" I can't remember specifics. I am certain most people are like that. Recruits especially.

Name the receiver who caught two TDs in last years National Championship.

Name the running back who scored the game winning 2 point conversion for Boise against Oklahoma.

I will bet more people know Ian Johnson than know Amari Cooper. Those kids aren't coming here with 6 wins in their head as a ceiling. Tommy Mister is coming here with the idea of being Ian Johnson instead of TJ Yeldon. Lazard would rather be Jeremy Curley than Julio Jones. I would like to think that I would be the same as them.

    That's a pretty select/fortunate group.
I'll use Mizzou for an example.
They are pretty darn good this year while still being totally unknown nationally.
    Everybody can't play for Bama.

Lazard is awesome but even he would probably not get a chance to shine at Alabama until his Jr season. He will get to play right away at ISU and have a chance to be a real difference maker for the entire program.

If Lazard wants to propose to his girlfriend after he wins our first BCS game, I'm all for it.

I guess it will have to be a top tier non-playoff bowl game huh.

I was going to say, what if he goes to Oregon, and they don't make the national championship at all. Would anyone remember him then?

THIS. I know it's the Harrison Barnes argument, but being one of many studs at Bama or Oregon vs the ****ing man at a school like ISU.

Though Troy Davis would have won the Heisman if he was at Texas or Oklahoma.

    Abort argument.

I got the point. My point was 99.9% of people won't remember either in a year or two.
