some coaches have indicated that they may be forced to play more zone if the games are called tighter. While I don't see it affecting Iowa State as much as some others, because we typically haven't been a grab/hold team on defense, it would be interesting to ask Fred if they have practiced more zone than in the past and would he possibly be forced to play more zone defense this year?

He's in Ames working out before he heads to Boston's D-league team.

Just read. That is awesome news to hear about Edozie. If Edozie turns into a Gipson type player from KSU for us, I would be extremely pleased.

Chris - any chance you could get your Cyclone radio shows (thursday night and reaction shows) on Cyclone tv like the pregame show?

That would be great. Gipson has some pretty legit offensive skills with good hands and feel around the basket. I don't think Edozie will compare that well too him, but I could be wrong.

I could see him as a taller version of somebody like Clint Varley. Just a bruiser that you don't want to see with the ball in his hands. Or a less athletic version of this guy.

I definitely understand that feeling that Niang has with Edozie. Sometimes you just want to shove a guy and tell him "It's just practice! Stop beating me up.", but that's how you get better.

"He probably won’t face too many guys stronger than him with the exception of Marcus Smart when we are playing Oklahoma State,” Hoiberg said before Wednesday’s practice.

This is some pretty high praise for Kane from the sounds of it. Reading some of the development on some of these guys and seeing Hoiberg high on them is getting things pretty exciting for the season to get into swing.

6'4" point guards aren't a common occurrence really.

I would think Kstate will really be impacted by these new defensive rules. They define a grab/hold defense. Maybe they aren't quite as bad with Weber as they were with Frank Martin.

Frank Martin might finally have a brain aneurysm during a game this year when his 7th player fouls out with 10 minutes left.

I thought this too, but I hope not. It seems like teams either play zone exclusively and do it well (ex.Syracuse) or they use the zone as a prevent defense to keep players out of foul trouble versus actually defending the other team. Zone also seems to slow down the game and it is ill suited for defending good 3-point shooting teams. Two things that wouldn't suit us very well.

I'm just not a zone guy. Man-to-man seems to keep offensive-minded players engaged in playing defense IMO. Not that our defense was a thing of beauty last year, but I cringed every time we went zone.
