You know Monte Morris is a freshman, right? And it sounds like he's going to get plenty of minutes this season. Is that good enough for you?

With Morris and Custer, I think PG will be a position of strength for us for the next 3-4 years.

I wouldn't hold your breath. Fred seems very content to stay the course. But, even if we sign someone like Vaughn, or any freshman, for that matter, will they suddenly not need to "gel" like a transfer would? Seems to me "gelling" would need to take place whenever you bring in new players, whether they be transfers or high school players.

I hope Kane can play his natural position, but I do think he might have to play a lot at PG; we'll see. Either way, I look forward to the day when Fred starts a B12 experienced PG.

We lost? Gotta be Mess's fault, can we fire him now?

I predict that day will be around the beginning of November 2014.

Re: Hoops Insider: Kane shines in "secret scrimmage"

I'm not worried about foul trouble so much. Naz is a good defender and can play the Babb role. He can fill the three and Hogue can slide over to help Ejim/Niang.

I'm surprised Kane led the team in rebounds instead of Ejim or Hogue.

We've heard that his natural position is the 2, but his stats seem to support that he'll do very well in our offense at the 1. Fred has plenty of experience at utilizing multiple ball handlers and guys that aren't "true PG's" at the 1.

I think Kane having guys like Ejim, Niang and Thomas will really allow him to settle in and not have to try to do too much.

I get your point. I would like to see how Fred accelerates the "gel time" in Nov & Dec with an experienced, returning back-court and hopefully we can eliminate the early losses to UNI/Drake, et al.

I don't think 10-3 records the last two years non-conference are "tanking" anything. Considering of those 6 losses, 3 were to rated teams and the other 3 were to our in-state rivals.

I think we are in better shape than years past. We had guys like Lucious who wanted to show they were All-Stars and would try doing too much. Kane doesn't come off that way.

Creighton is also #13 in the Ken Pom rankings, it's pretty encouraging we were beating them midway through the 2nd.
