    Living Advice

Myself along with three buddies are looking to move into an apartment for the next school year. We took a tour of Fieldstone Grand and really liked it but it has very bad reviews online. Have any of you lived or heard of this place? What is a realistic price to pay for apartments in Ames? Also, any living recommendations? Thanks

You live in Kansas City. Think you dumb ape.

    Re: Living Advice

I lived in fieldstone grand (on one of the lower level 3br units right along coconino) but it was several years ago, right when it was new, and before Haverkamp sold it to whoever (i think) has it now. Did have some issues with water coming in to lower levels. Parking could often be a mess there too, though that applies to a lot of places in ames.

Probably cant help much as far as their current condition goes, though it wouldnt surprise me if its gone downhill like the reviews say, even if the units were pretty nice when we first moved in in 05.

Here's some advice, don't ever rent from tripplet. EVER. They are literally the worst company I dealt with while I was in college.

Take a look at Prarie Oak Properties. Its a small company owned by a guy and his son as opposed to the huge companies like Jensen, Hunziker, etc.

Last year myself and two buddies had a 3 bedroom 3 bathroom in Fountainview through them and paid $1,110/ month with uitilities included. Ended up being $380/month per person after our Directv bill and you don't have to worry about paying utilities. Not to mention the apartment had hardwood floors everywhere but the bedrooms and were pretty big. Also had a deck for grilling. They're by far the best place I lived in Ames during my time there. I know they have a few 4 bedroom apartments but I'm not sure how many.

Why not get a place closer to campus?

Thanks man! I'll check it out. When I toured Fieldstone Grand it looked good but the reviews scare me. And it would be 455 a month. 380 sounds a lot better!

No problem, here is their website with contact info: http://www.prairieoakproperties.com/ . I lived in Oak View which is on the far south end of the fountain view complex by the new buildings that just went up this summer.

They fill up pretty fast. They had our apartment rented in January for our August move out this fall. Had I not graduated and moved away we would probably still be there.

Yes thank you. I'm calling Friday so we can tour and sign. Do you know if it has wood floor or carpet? Everything looks nice and not run down?

Oak View is wood floor in the living room and hallways, kitchen and bathrooms are tile, and bedrooms are carpet. I can't speak for the other two complexes but I imagine they are pretty close to the same.

They're not run down at all, when we moved in our apartment looked brand new. They do pretty much everything themselves as far as maintenance and cleaning when people move out so they did a good job of keeping everything nice. They do a pretty good job of screening who they rent to and that's how they keep them in good shape.

The owners are really nice, but don't expect it to be a party complex. Oak View is more of a complex for upperclassmen or grad students who spend their time drinking at bars as opposed to throwing apartment parties.

I lived in Fieldstone Grand in one of the 5 bedrooms, was nice as hell! hardwood floors, a big island in the kitchen (5 bed only). Great party apartment, which we put to good use.

can't speak to management now though, that was around 2006.

    Re: Living Advice

Not to dig up an old thread but the Fieldstone units themselves were not bad at all.... but as mentioned the Management was absolutely horrible. I was there from around fall 2004 years up until about spring 2007. The apartments themselves really weren't that bad. At least back then and compared to a lot of the houses we looked at around Welch ave. The management was absolutely horrible. If I remember right I think Haverkamp properties managed it at first and I dont remember who baught it out. But we had a few things that needed fixed that took forever. After we were getting ready to move out the new management completely lost all of our maint records from the entire time we were there so they tried to screw us over on the deposit. The location wasn't horrible as long as you dont mind not living on campus.

Had some buddies that were in Fieldstone grand and they were pretty nice... some got beat up pretty bad due to parties but you'll have that. Overall I didn't mind living there as they were pretty decent for the price but if I were to do it over again I would probably look somewhere else just because of the management alone. We were in the northwest corner of the Fieldstone complex on the bottom floor... unit 1 I think. Where did you end up deciding on?

Is that you Andy? Thought I'd be meetin' you down in Zihuatanejo when I get out. Help you with that boat. My advice to you is: Get busy living, or get busy dying.
