Eustachy's comments on this year's 'no hand-checking' emphasis

Man, I miss this guy's sense of humor.

Former Iowa State coach Larry Eustachy hates the new emphasis.

“What are we thinking, trying to put players in situations where they can be eliminated even more?” the now Colorado State coach wondered aloud at the Mountain West Conference’s media day. “If you pay to go see Celine Dion, she’s not going to be fouled out at intermission.

“Louisville isn’t going to have a team if we stick to this, because they’re going to all foul out in the first half.

“(Rick) Pitino will have to play.”

Seems kind of weak. If you are going to take shots a Pitino, at least try to work in the restaurant deal somehow...

I love LE but I gotta disagree with him on this. The game is getting too rough. It used to be coaches were the ones teaching you to play defense with your feet and not your hands. Now playing defense with your hands is being coached and encouraged and IMO it's got to stop being coached that way.

I agree with this....hand checking also allows for interpretation... something ISU fans know too much about.

Aaron Craft would have fouled out in the first half.

LOL the game is getting too rough? OK well make sure you don't say that to every basketball player that played before 2000

This is exactly what crossed my mind when the changes were made. I'm really curious to see how Louisville responds and how they play this year. Could be interesting.

Agreed. Louisville won by holding onto the opponents underwear or politely tripping them. They were stuck on their man like gorilla glue.

The cynic in me wonders whether the refs will call such fouls on teams that have such "elite" athletes.

Hand checking hasn't been so bad. What's being taught now is the hands-in-the-air chest bump/dry hump all around the perimeter. I'm hoping that gets called.

Basketball is not getting too rough. Time to grow a pair, and play real basketball. (Same with the NBA) Sick of the refs blowing the whistle every 2 seconds.
