    The Trifecta

    Many of you are lucky if you are just an Iowa State fan. Unfortunately I have hit the bottom feeder trifecta this year being a Vikings, Cubs and ISU football fan. Could there be any worse combination right now? The Vikings look like the NFL's version of ISU. No offense and a defense that can't stop anyone when it really counts. And the Cubs? 'nuff said.

    You could be a Southern Miss Golden Eagle football fan.
    They haven't won a game since 12/24/11.

    Using USM as a guide, with those 3 sports, yes, you could do worse:
    * Southern Miss
    * Astros
    * Jaguars

    I assume about 47 people in the world have that specific combo as their long-term favorites.

    For long-term-plus-immediate frustration, Cubs-Vikings-Cyclones is a deflating trifecta, for sure.

    I love that you say 47 people have this combo. Fake stats are the best stats.

    I'm going to add 4th and 5th teams for the quadfecta/quinfecta? ha. Since the Cubs-Vikings-Cyclones fan has a 50% chance of being a Blackhawks or Bulls fan then they likely don't qualify for a full loser credit.

    My 4 teams are ISU, KC Chiefs, KC Royals, Utah Jazz. Last championship ISU Bball 2002. Last National Championship (World Series, Super Bowl) 1985. Previous to that 1969. That's not good.

    Obviously Chiefs are hot right now, but I think we'll get the 5 seed, end up playing a road playoff game at Cincinnati...and losing.

    Lastly, what is up with the ads on cyclone fanatic. Why do I keep seeing a loop of David Beckham? I can't even click the link and have it take me somewhere. I have no idea what it's selling or its purpose.

    Re: The Trifecta

    Fortunately I don't follow hockey (liked watching ISU's club team while I was in Ames) and the NBA has degraded so far I don't watch until the playoffs and then could care less who wins. Once upon a time I became a diehard lakers fan (back in the 70's-80's). So, the three I mentioned are pretty much my mainstays. I'm trying to be a bandwagon Chiefs fan this year so that helps a little bit. Think I may need therapy or for college basketball to start!

    Wow, I thought I was the only person in the world with the trifecta. It is nice to know there are others out there to offer support.

    Re: The Trifecta

    The Brewers had a terrible year (especially before the All-Star break) & the Cyclones are struggling mightily. Although the Broncos are doing well, they capped off the crappy weekend with a gut-wrenching loss (4 turnovers - ugh!).

    Utah Utes, Illinois Illini. The University of Pennsylvania thought about following this pattern by calling themselves the Pennsylvania Pencils. However, they were afraid their students would start chanting "We're No. 2"

    I'm a VikesCLonesTwins fan. Arguably worse because, although the Cubs and Twins had the same record in 2013, the Twins won their division 6 times in 9 years, went to the ALCS, swept player of the month categories, had two MVPs and a Cy Young winner in that time, and regressed back to their 1990's spot of being just plain awful. They gave us some hope. And snatched it away.

    Clones- Cubs - Bucs - Don't really follow Hockey, and honestly am a closet 76ers fan. But not a strong supporter by any means, just loved growing up and watching Iverson.

    Re: The Trifecta

    My husband is also in "I hate football" mode. With baseball, you can USUALLY tell within the first two months where your season is going. (2013 Dodgers notwithstanding) The Cubs weren't supposed to be good this year, and they weren't. Cyclones and Vikings were supposed to be better than they are.

    I've gravitated away from being an NBA fan to being an NHL fan. But the NHL is a distance fourth or fifth in my fan interests.

    Re: The Trifecta

    Two weekends ago was awful for me. A little off topic to start. Friday: I had a gastroscopy and colonoscopy. The Dodgers (I know they were in the NLCS) lose game 1 to StL and had a million opportunities to score in that game. Saturday: ISU loses at Tex Tech and Dodgers lose game 2 to StL 1-0. Sunday the Vikings got smoked at home by Carolina. That was a bad all around weekend.

    Well, we know the Cubs are not going to win anything.
    The Vikes will need a drafted qb so that will be a couple of years.
    So that leaves you next year with an improved oiline for the Clones.

    Luckily I have the Packers. I don't follow baseball but I do follow the NBA and I am a Bucks fan. Going to be a very rough season for them I'm afraid but I guess I can cheer for tanking for Wiggins!

    On behalf of Cubs fans everywhere you can stick your "being a Twins fan might be worse" schtick up your arse.
