Why doesn't Iowa State have an open practice to the public?

I know many of the big name schools do this. It would be a cool thing to have at Hilton and would give us a taste of what we have for the upcoming season.

It would be cool for fans and recruiting but I'm guessing its counted as a practice and there is less accomplished at a practice open to the public than there is at a standard practice.

I hate this excuse, doesn't stop other schools from doing it.

Not only do we not have an open practice, we don't have a Midnight Madness, we only play one exhibition game and we have 1 less game than every Big 12 team this year. I feel like I am being cheated.

I would assume a practice open to the public would count as a practice. It doesn't count as a game, haha.

We're trying to keep our explosive offense a secret until the last game of the year.

Iowa has an open practice tomorrow evening in case anyone was wondering. If Iowa can do it, why can't we? I think the thing Kentucky does is way over the top but its also awesome. Introducing all the players, the fireworks followed up by a scrimmage. Would love to attend something like that.

I personally could care less about having an open practice or midnight madness. Do whatever it takes to win when the season starts. If that means no open practice or midnight madness than so be it.

Pretty bad theory when teams that win every year have these types of events. It's not like we've been making the NCAA Tournament because we are pretty much the only team in the nation not to do one of these events.

I thought this tweet from a few days ago was pretty funny:

@mayorsmom32: R we the only school in America that doesn't do midnight madness? Time to bring it back!!

Now to all you guys who don't want one because it would mean we would be a CBI team () tell that to the coaches mom who wants us to have one.

I really don't think they are winning because of this. I'd personally attend an open practice, but from what I've seen of Midnight Madness I've never been a fan. My guess is most coaches aren't fans of open practices.

We used to do it with JO... Kinda fun but more of a pep rally than anything else. Can't recall it being terribly well attended but it was a while back.

I'll bet this is the reason it doesn't happen right now.

Much like bowl game trips, NCAA tournament trips, etc....the number of people who say they'd attend something and the actual number who attend are generally FAR apart.

Harvard and UNI had one. You can't tell me they would have got more people there than Iowa State.
