    Fake FG in 3Q

At the risk of "piling on" with negatives from this game: What was up with the fake FG?

Two things I want to clarify:
    1. I am not against gadget plays in general (especially with surprise element).
    2. That play alone is not the reason ISU lost the game.

But — why? Score is tied in the third quarter. A chance to take the lead for the first time. It's a 40-yard attempt, within most kickers' realistic range.

If you want to try for a first down on 4th and 7 in that situation instead of settling for 3, fine. Line up and run a play.

For balance, I’ll add a counter-positive: Kickoff TD return by West was wonderful. He was due. Fun to see.

If Brun wasn't ridden down the field, it could have worked. I have no problem with it.

No problem with the call. The execution was a problem, and defenders riding Brun was a bigger problem.

With Tech's offense, field goals were not going to win the game.

I have no problem with the call.

    Re: Fake FG in 3Q

I didn't like the call, and I wouldn't have like it either if the offense would have lined up instead of the field goal unit. A team has chance to take the lead for the first time all game, and I think you have take that chance instead of trying to get the first down. What I hate about the call was it 4 and 7, and with the way the offense was having trouble converting third downs, I just don't see how they were going to convert from that distance. It sucks to say, but I could have lived with a missed field goal in that situation opposed to not converting the first down.

I have no issue with the call. I do have an issue with whatever Netten thought a forward pass should be. That was laughable bad.

Play to win...I like the call and yes, that should have been defensive holding whether the ball was catchable or not.

    Re: Fake FG in 3Q

My only problem with it was the fact that in the previous quarter you run two very successful running plays, have 1 45 second left in the half and two timeouts. Why not take a chance for a score there? If you are going to run a fake field goal like that, why not be aggressive and try to score before half? Even a field goal gets momentum moving in your direction and then the ball at the half. So the picking and choosing to be aggressive is not what I liked. Of course if we would have gotten it I would have loved it.

I liked the call. I just thought we were done with the whole kicker/punter throwing the ball after the 2010 season

I don't believe holding was called on TTU on either offense or defense all game, which is bull ****.

Kind of like the last time we had a kicker try to throw a pass against Nebraska a few years ago. Not really fair to ask a kid to throw a pass in a d-1 football game when he hasn't thrown one in high school. When will we have one of our back-up qb's hold snaps so we have a real threat when we fake a field goal?

I thought this too. The pass was way off, but most likely the kicker was suppose to throw to a spot on the field and Brun was never going to get there with a guy holding him for 15 yards. Can't believe that ISU didn't get the call or that the announcers didn't mention the holding. I guess because it is a trick play the rules don't apply anymore.

You really cannot believe those excuses for announcers didn't mention it?
