Do you really think I want us to lose to Baylor? If you do, you don't understand me at all. I'd love nothing more than for us to win out and go 9-3 on the season. But I'm also being somewhat realistic.

The chance is there for us to get down big against Baylor. If you don't think that possibility exists you haven't been paying attention to either Iowa State football or Baylor football this year. ISU has struggled to score 20 pts a game, while Baylor is putting up about 70 pts a game. That is called reality.

But, if we would happen to be down by 5 TDs in the 2nd half against Baylor, instead of getting down on this team and saying how bad we are, instead I'm going to be looking forward to seeing even more of our younger guys get experience in that game hopefully. It will only help us in the long run. I'm going to try to look at everything else this season as a building step towards more success next season. That's all.

Re: Optimistic about the future of this team

I think the future is pretty bright for this team too. I think the keys are the next couple of recruiting classes. It is essential that Lazard, Mister and all the other verbals, plus a couple more that ISU is pursuing actually sign their LOI's and commit.

This team has a lot of good young players on it. ISU will not lose as many seniors this year has has been the case in the past, yet, as always, it is going to lose some key players. Still, with the experience the younger players are getting this year, and with next year's class, the future does look pretty good, imho.

I really hope ISU can capitalize on the new facilities, the fan base, and CPR's emotional leadership when it comes to recruiting in the next few classes.

As far as the o line goes.. it will help a ton to be able to review game tape of the klenakis scheme this offseason. I thought I heard that this spring they didn't even bother looking at last years game film because the scheme was so different.

Also, an entire off season to mentally and physically mold the guys into the shape coach k wants them in. No more TE built linemen I hope.

We're in good shape. I think next year will be a very nice year.

I don't recall if it was Kamari Cotton-Moya or Kamari Syrie, but I do remember one of the coaches claiming they were planning to play one of the two as a true freshmen until they got injured.

Another reason to be encouraged for the future:

    Iowa State Athletics@CycloneATH

RT @CycloneFB: Richardson ranks 23rd nationally in completions per game (21.5) and total offense (303.3) #Cyclones

Re: Optimistic about the future of this team

I am very optimistic about improved play from the WRs and DL next season. Cautiously optimistic about better play in the OL. Hard to say about the LBs and DBs. If we had guys with such potential waiting in the wings, seems they would be seeing more of them on the field this year. For example - Seeley, D. White, Mutcherson, Lemke -- we just don't know much of anything about these guys. I am long past the point of being optimistic about guys just because they are on our team and there has been an occasional positive comment from a coach or other observer.

how many times have people talked about next year being better, yet it never happens.

Re: Optimistic about the future of this team

The linebacker and safety positions do worry me a little bit for next year, but if Rogers really does move to safety that will be a huge help IMO. Knott will be a stud for as long as he's here, but a new middle linebacker is usually a cause of concern. I hope we can just reload there with little to no dropoff, because the rest of our team is going to be stacked.

I think as the season progresses, Tuftee loses more and more time. We will return our entire starting OL. With no Seniors next year even, I think.

Let me just point out that a **** ton of people were NOT expecting this to be a good year. So there you have it. You've got some informed and knowledgable people who were realistic from the outset. At this time last year, I don't remember a whole hell of a lot of people saying, "Wait til next year...". I GUARANTEE you next year will be better. You can take that to the bank, bud!!! Save this post and throw it in my face a year from now if I'm wrong...but I won't be.

I think the concenous was the defense would be down and the offense would be better. I think that has held true looking at the Tulsa and Texas games. Sam was hurt through first two games and we didn't have 2 of our best OL guys so offense looked bad Week 1 and 2. Defense looked okay but against Texas they looked like the defense a couple years ago and we've made huge David Irving sized strides since Week 1.

But yes, most knew this would be a transition year. I knew defense would be solid last year and year before. I hoped the offense would be better last year with both QBs having experience the year before and new OC.
