Yesterday I was given a box of item pertaining to my uncle who was killed in action March 15, 1945 (10 days after his 21st birthday) in Iwo Jima.
I knew that his Purple Heart existed but did not know that his other medals, certificates, letters from USMC to his parents, and the letters that he wrote his parents would be in this box.
I thought these items had been lost/destroyed years ago.
I'm feeling very privileged on this Veteran's Day to have these items and to read his letters that include his plans after the war. George, you would have been a great dairyman and you and grandpa would have had the father-son farm that you dreamed about.
