Should Iowa State be looking for a new conference?

Okay, I'm normally a Big 12 guy. I love the conference, love following the other teams we play, the rivalries we've established and etc., but, there seems to be a lot of ant-ISU sentiment in the league. We saw it twice from the refs last year against KU in basketball, and just last night we witnessed against the horns on the gridiron.

Now, normally I'm not a conspiracy guy, but this is becoming a trend as of late. As Iowa State becomes more competitive and isn't getting thrashed by KU in basketball by 20-30 every year like it used to be, or losing to Texas in football by 30-40 as it used to, it seems as though the power that be (of the Big XII) are trying to keep things the way they used to be for ISU. I'm not sure who is making the calls, or who could hypothetically be chirping in the refs and officials ears to screw ISU over, but my gut tells me it's a command coming from at or near the top. It only happens in conference games.

I've been an advocate of the Big 12 up to this point, but maybe Mizzou, TAMU, Nebraska, and Colorado had the right idea....maybe they saw the corruption? 3 times the embarrassment on national television for our school inside of one calendar year is just a little much if you ask me. Maybe there are greener pastures out there for Iowa State, and maybe THEY should be the ones instigating this conversation with other conferences. Just a thought.

If the Big 10 wanted us I think we'd go, but that doesn't seem to be the case. After that the only likely conferences are mid-majors and the Big 12 is certainly better than the MAC of C-USA.

Where exactly would we go...the Big 12 is our home, like it or not...

We're never going to be asked to join the Big Ten, SEC, Pac 12, or any other BCS conference.

When our options are only the Big East, Conference USA, or MAC, see ianoconnor's post.

Re: Should Iowa State be looking for a new conference?

while we are staying put .....

those three teams were 'competitive' against TX before they left. They felt and knew what we are experiencing now. However the ability to leave a conference is tilted against most any college and especially against ISU.

Re: Should Iowa State be looking for a new conference?

Unfortunately other conferences do this crap too with their top teams. The whole thing is a bit rigged.

And its pointless to discuss as nobody that wouldnt be a massive step down wants us.

No. This exposure will benefit our team, hopefully sooner than later.

Re: Should Iowa State be looking for a new conference?

No - in 5 years Mizzou and Colorado will wish they were back in the Big XII. Besides , the big crisis several years ago taught me that nobody wants anybody that can't bring a bunch of TV sets. ISU has little to offer most other BCS conferences.

I'm starting to wonder if Bowlsby and his Hawkeye bias isn't starting to show it's head. I know it's hard to fathom, but I wouldn't put it past any former hawk to try and make our lives as difficult as possible.

Nah. It's cool. Just go with it man. Relax. Find your happy place. Breathe.

No, I wish we could but cash is king and no BCS conference wants us, I would rather be in any BCS conference over the Big 12...

Re: Should Iowa State be looking for a new conference?

If the B1G came and offered and only the B1G offered then yes I would switch. I hate the B1G as much as anyone else does but at least their less prominent teams get a fair deal against the big boys when the game is close. That call isn't coming so nothing is changing.

The conference has went from being the Big 8 brotherhood to the XII dictatorship. It's pretty clear now why the other schools left..
