Re: Why did we kick a field goal instead of going for it?

What are our chances of making it? We converted 50% of our 3rd downs, I'd wager maybe we had a 1 in 3 chance of converting 4th and 3?

Settling for OT is not "playing to win".

You had two plays to beat Texas, and PR turned into a *****. It is that simple, PR played to avoid losing.

    Sickening.

Had one play to beat Texas, and he chickened out.

    Sad.

Horrible play calling by mess as well there on 2nd and 3rd down.

Rhoads played to put the game on our defenses shoulders. For the defense to make a play and end the game. They did just that. And then ISU got ****ed over by the refs.

Re: Why did we kick a field goal instead of going for it?

I'm baffled this thread is still ongoing. It was 100% the correct call. It's not even debatable. Those who deny that have absolutely no idea what they are talking about and I will more than likely block because I won't want to read their opinion anymore. You ask 100 D1 coaches what to do in that situation and all 100 kick the fg. It's not even debatable.

Now that MBB is back, do we still have to pretend that WBB matters?

Lets meet in the middle and say it was 40%. That means your expeced amout of points by going for it is :.4 x7=2.8 points.

Let's say you make that fieldgoal 90% of the time which is 3 x .9 = 2.7 points.

Those are just made up stats obviously because I don't really know the odds of ISU gaining 3 yards nor the odds of ISU making that particular field goal.

A defense that had played very well the second half, who had forced multiple turnovers, who had all the momentum compared to the Texas offense. You give them the chance to win the ballgame, which they would have had the refs called the game correctly at the end.

And also greater than 6, as we found out. And if we are just up by three Texas is playing for the field goal rather than the TD.

Seems like pretty similar numbers, you'd take the option that fails 60% of the time even if the 40% was almost certainly a win? I bet coaches that make that call don't have jobs for very long.

Actually, no, Texas does not just play for 3 if only down 3. Why would you think that? 7 still wins the game for them at that point.

In Judoka's world everyone plays for overtime!
