    Rhoads in good company?

I assume that everyone heard the TV announcer on Thursday say that he considers CPR in the same class of coaches as Snyder of KSU, Fitzgerald of Northwestern, and O'Brien of Pedo U.
    Thoughts?

No way on the first two.

He needs to have a couple solid years very soon to prove it, but I agree that he's on pace to be in the same class with them.

As much as I am not a fan of Old Balls at K-State, what he has done, TWICE, is amazing. Literally the worst team in D-1 football when he took over to Big 12 champs.

Fitzgerald's career arc has been much like Rhoads. He's just a few years ahead. Hopefully CPR can take that next big step.

He has a chance, but he needs to start piling up wins.

My thought is that guys doing football games often pump up the participants. I'm not down on CPR but he's got work to do to get in the category of those mentioned.

6 win seasons aren't going to put you up there with those guys. Right now he's more Dan McCarney than Bill Snyder.

Hell even McCarney took us up to #9........... just have to forget what happened after the TexasTech game that year

    Re: Rhoads in good company?

The announcers for this game were way over the top, trying too pump a lot of kind of phony emotion into this game, imo. That being said, Rhoads has a chance to be in the company of those coaches down the road, but he's not there yet.

I agree, not the same class yet, but similar trajectory. Competitive first, winning program after. I certainly hope it goes that way!

    Re: Rhoads in good company?

Snyder is laughable. The guy has multiple Big 12 championships and a ton of double digit victory seasons.

Fitzgerald is building something at NW by doing more with less. Hopefully CPR can get Iowa State to the same point

O'Brien walked into a bizarre situation at Penn State and is dealing with sanctions and bowl ban...not really comparable

Better than Criner/Walden. He is Danny Mac level in his last few years. Less than Earl Bruce and Johnny Majors so far. You have to better than .500.

    Re: Rhoads in good company?

Rhoads certainly raised a program from the ashes of complete terribleness to a decent team and built a foundation as good as any coach in the nation could hope for.

However, he has not yet proven he can build on that and field a team that is talented enough to compete for conference championships, or even have winning conference records. If you look at most coaches who have gotten their teams over the hump, they usually do it by year 4 or 5. Rhoads seems to be taking a little longer to get it going with us, but as long as he gets us there I'm ok with it.

And the fact that he hasn't gotten more wins can't be discussed without noting our schedules. If we have those old Big 12 North schedules with 4 OOC games, we probably would've hit 8 wins in one or two of our bowl seasons, if not more. Top 5 SOS seasons are not conducive to taking the next step as a program.

    Re: Rhoads in good company?

Rhoads hasn't improved from the beginning of his time here. After the first year it has been pretty level with likely a big drop off this year. Not even close to the same level as those guys.
