    Andruw Jones to Dodgers

I could care less, but I think it's noteworthy news.

ESPN - Preliminary agreement would give Jones $36.2 million - MLB

Dodgers will be talked a lot about next year with this and Torre.

    Re: Andruw Jones to Dodgers

Saw this coming... The Dodgers didnt want to sign anyone long term and just wanted another 'stop gap'. $18 mill/yr is alot to pay for a stop gap though. This makes a couple more guys expendable though and might get the Dodgers back in the Santana talks... I think they will also be making a move for Rolen...

So much for the theory of him going to the Cubs to fill the center role.

This should make Juan Pierre available again...

I'm guessing without bothering to check that Step 2 is having Boras as your agent... just a hunch.

    Re: Andruw Jones to Dodgers

I'm pretty happy with this as a Dodger fan. They committed only $36 million over 2 years as opposed to $90+ million over 5 years. I'd look for us to make a few other moves (maybe trade for pitching if Kuroda doesn't sign). As for Rolen, I hope we don't go after him unless we can dump Pierre on the Cards and that would depend on whether we trade Ethier or Kemp for pitching, then I wouldn't want to trade Pierre.

I've never played organized baseball past little league, but I bet Boras could still get 5 mil a year for me from some club

18 mil a year is a ton to pay an aging outfielder who's skills are fading fast.

Fits right in with the Dodgers usual signings. Overpay an aging superstar. Check. Who's next? Julio Franco? Not a Dodger hater but they always seem to get the least for their $$ every single year.

    This is the "Pedro Factor"

The Dodgers are actually being hurt by their great young talent and strong minor league system. Ever since they traded away Pedro Martinez they have been afraid to give away another star. They are constanty having to find plug in players while they wait for players to develop, if they ever develop at all... They signed Bill Mueller while waiting for Joel Guzman or Andy LaRoche. They sign Nomar to bridge the gap to James Loney... Brett Tomko waiting on Billingsly, etc. etc.

    Re: Andruw Jones to Dodgers

As a Dodgers fan, I am happy with this deal. I think Jones will play better in the next two years so he can get a big payout on his next deal (as if $18.1 mil a year isn't a big enough payout). However, Boras was looking for $90 mil over 5 years...I'm glad the Dodgers didn't sign him for five years. Now if we can just get rid of Pierre and his contract!

Jones has been "over-rated" for some time now. His range is not very good and his offensive production has waned.

I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes.

If I was the Cubs, I would buy as many Florida Marlins players as you could get in a $10M package and put them in the Cubs starting lineup.
This would be a wise investment.
