Re: Cassel to start for Vikings.

We'll see how it goes. I'm not expecting anything special or greater than Ponder. The Vikings could be 2-1 right now and Ponder's getting way too much of the blame. I think it's smart to sit Ponder with his injury so I'm just hoping for a W any way we can get it.

Re: Cassel to start for Vikings.

It'd be nice if whoever is playing quarterback would actually get some decent line play in front of them.

    Hmm...why does this sound familiar?

You Vikes fans are going to be begging to have Ponder back after you see Cassel in action.

How can the Vikings sign so many bad qbs when there are so many other options?

Re: Cassel to start for Vikings.

The Vikings have always been practically clueless when it comes to quarterbacks, ever since the Tarkenton/Tommy Kramer days. With the partial exceptions of Culpepper, and maybe Wade Wilson and Brad Johnson, they've never been able to find their own decent QBs. They used to have this obsession with old washed-up guys. That kinda worked sometimes (Favre, Cunningham, Moon sorta) and didn't work a lot of other times (Jeff George? Jim McMahon?). Now their obsession seems to be young washed-up QBs (Cassell, Freeman).

I had hopes for Ponder, even though they drafted him way too high. He's smart and has great taste in women. But this is the year he needs to prove he's an NFL starter, and while he should not bear the brunt of the blame for the Vike's terrible start (two-minute pass defense, anybody? Anybody? Pass defense in general?) a true leader and star needs to do more to overcome that. I'm writing this year off. Maybe Bridgewater or Tajh Boyd will be the young star QB the Vikings haven't had since Fran in 1960.

Might as well pick up Tebow.

Re: Cassel to start for Vikings.

Tebow? The Vikings don't need another tight end.

Seriously, though, given the Vike's historic love of washed-up QBs young and old, signing Tebow wouldn't shock me. It would be a terrible, disastrous, no-good, very bad move, but it would be very Viking-like.

Re: Cassel to start for Vikings.

If you like a QB with a low pass pct who can't throw downfield, then Cassell is your guy. There's a reason the Chiefs dumped him as soon as Andy Reid showed up.

About all he can do is handoff to AP and throw bubble screens.

Cassel looked solid. Better than Ponder has all year.

Unlike Ponder, Cassel wasn't running for dear life. I'm not sure the QB play was better but the OL play was infinitely better.
