    Getting 'the snip'?

Ok fanatics, I know it's not the summer dead season, but we could use a topic other than offensive woes, defensive woes and who should be fired, so I'm posting this poll topic.

Now that the wife and I have achieved the desired number of crumb munchers (2 awesome little boys), I made an appointment to talk about getting 'the snip' (vasectomy).

However, since mentioning it to a few friends/co-workers, I've gotten a lot of negative feedback...lasting pain/side effects, etc.

First, the poll, straightforward...should 00clone get the snip?

Second: Why? Discuss...overall thoughts for/against...your experiences, etc.

Finally: Obviously this could turn into a shutdown thread quickly, but I'm curious for feedback, let's keep it clean.

If you ever hope to have more fun with the misses, you will get this done rather than have her get a procedure. It is no big deal at all.

Anyone I've ever talked to that's had it done said it's no big deal. A tubal ligation is major surgery with general anesthetic, don't do that.

    Re: Getting 'the snip'?

It definitely takes the worry out of being close after the first month or so. Git er done if you are sure you both want no more children. I hate doctors, needles, and scalpels but am still glad I had the procedure. An icebag was my best friend for the first 24 hours afterwards. I had no problems with swelling or pain afterwards and no problems later on. Just do not try running up and down stairs on your heels for a while afterwards.

I am in the same boat. I notice they have different types of procedures such as needle less. I know better than to think if something sounds too good to be true, probably is.

I went back to work that day. Just be careful to not let any kids jump on you for a day or two.

No needle, no scalpel..just make sure you have a bag or two of frozen peas in the freezer.

Exactly this - unless she were having a C-section and the doctor was already in there, a vasectomy is a much easier procedure. Just stock up on bags of frozen peas.

(Edit - dang it, C.John beat me to it. )

    Re: Getting 'the snip'?

I got mine in April on a Thursday, that saturday morning i shot a 74. If they give you some Oxy or Hyrdo, just take them and have a drink or two and you will feel fine. I did wear compression shorts for a couple days just to reduce the movement around.

it's not bad at all. don't let anyone fool you.

Get the dvr loaded up with good movies, take it easy in the recliner for a couple days, and the frozen pea thing and you're good to go.

    Re: Getting 'the snip'?

I spent 2 days in the hospital with mine. While it is rare, I had the wonderful complication of a hematoma and that area swelled to the size of a small basketball. I had to be opened back up to have it drained. No fun at all. I really couldn't walk for a week and it was really hell.

That said, I would still say do it. My complication was rare and most go through with almost no issue. Also, as others have said, the benefits are great. :)

I don't understand why people think its such a big deal for women to get neutered. My wife had a 7 minute little procedure done in her obgyn's office and then went back to work. It's not 1992, there are new options out there, explore both sides of the coin.

Try to schedule it the day before a day full of sports. Like March Madness.
