"Okay Art Briles, you have proven your point. You’re offense is as ‘BA’ as Bruce Willis in the original Die Hard. Now drop 70 on a BCS team, and your upcoming Oct. 5 game against West Virginia doesn’t count. "

The scary thing is, most of these points are scored by halftime.

Chris, are you telling us that ISU is scared of offering Gafford because he's only 5-9 when we've had a starting DB who is only 5-7 for 3 straight seasons? There has to be more to the story...

    Edit: Not to mention a 5-7 WR/PR.

Re: Monday Musings: Huge week; football recruiting tidbits

Agreed on the Tulsa game, I would hate to see this team go into B12 play at 0-3. I don’t ever expect to see a CPR team “pack it in” but you could start to worry about a young group getting down on themselves and the wheels really coming off. Win a game on the road against a decent Tulsa team and all of a sudden they go into Texas game with some swagger.

I also went to the Urbandale game on Friday (actually I think I saw CW but I didn’t want to walk up and be a creeper) and Lazard certainly looked the part. He hurdled a guy on an end around play that went for big yards (got called back for a penalty) and that was a big time play. He has physical tools that very few if any of the other WR at ISU have even as a young guy.

ďItís beyond pride. Itís a restored trust. Thereís a confidence again, a passion that teeters on swagger. More than anything, (Iowa State head coach Paul Rhoads) has restored the Iowa State ďitĒ factor, the steadfast belief that it is great to be a Cyclone...the manís enthusiasm is genuine to the core...Ē

That was then and this is now, they've stressed they have wanted taller DB's. Not that I don't think he could be a D1 player, but 5'11", 5'11", 6'2" and 6'2" are our DB commits for '14.

This. I mean, the kid they got yesterday is 6-foot-2. They are clearly wanting more size at the position.

The Cyclones have a fever, and the only prescription is beating Tulsa.

Good stuff CWilly. I really think the mentality in the program is better than what is perceived on the boards. These guys are proud, and will keep playing hard a hall mark of CPR's tenure.

I think we get moving vs Tulsa. Good win, and the Big 12 better not be sleeping against us.

I think a lot of it has to do with the huge WR that we see in the Big 12. They are like TEs from10 years ago, only much faster and more athletic. Not saying a shorter guy can't make it, but someone 5' 9" (if that is his real height) is going to be targeted by a good OC.

Some of the best WR in the league the past few years have not been huge, by any means.

    Dez Bryant - 6-2
    Ryan Broyles - 5-10
    Kenny Stills - 6-0
    Justin Blackmon - 6-1
    Tavon Austin - 5-9

Heck, Bundrage is one of the bigger guys at 6-2.

Out of the 28 guys on the OSU's WR roster, only 3 are above 6-2. OU has 1 guy above 6-2 and Baylor has 0. Those are arguably the top 3 offenses in the Big12 today.

I'm not saying we should fill the defensive backfield with runts, but I don't see a guy being 5-9 as much a hinderence when your playing against guys that are 5-11 to 6-0 on average.
