    Northwestern Doing Something Right

How long before everyone does something like this? I am surprised we don't see this more at all sporting events, especially the NFL and hard to get MLB. Also sorry if this has been posted elsewhere.

This season, Northwestern will be implementing Purple Pricing for the Wildcats matchups with Ohio State and Michigan. Purple PricingGUARANTEES you pay the lowest price for your game tickets even if prices go down after you purchase. Click to BUY at the Current Price or BID and try to save your spot in case the price goes down. Either way EVERYONE pays the same, lowest final price.

They just want to get people to games. When Nebraska played there it looked like Lincoln east.

NW is doing this because they don't sell any tickets. They have no homefield advantage because the opposing team usually has just as many, if not more (see Nebraska, OSU, Michigan, Wisconsin) fans than NW.

Most don't do it because they don't need to resort to gimmicks to fill the stadium with their own fans. Maybe I'm overestimating what it would take to manage something like that, but I think it might be easier and cheaper to just offer cheap tickets. Or in the case of Hawkeye basketball, offer free pizza and ice cream cones. I have to hand it to them, the student section in CHA looked full during those games. Having 275 lb kids in every seat will do that.

    Re: Northwestern Doing Something Right

I guess I see it different than the rest of you. NW took the two games they knew they would sell out and significantly increased the price. Then at the same time said you can bid on your seat, allowing for a controlled auction. Yes NW has problems filling their stadium, but these are games that they would sellout in the past. Now they are taking advantage of that and selling the seats for 3 or 4 times what you would have paid in the past. Notice the OSU game is sold out and the Michigan game is nearly sold out.

If ISU would have done this for the Iowa game how much would ISU been able to sell the ticket for. Instead of selling for a low price and letting fans/2nd hand resellers profit, the athletic department benefits. I believe we will see a lot more of this for in demand tickets, supply and demand will require it.

Every visiting team pretty much does this. Chicago is ground zero for Big Ten alums and it isn't a far drive for people from Ohio, Wisconsin, Indiana, Iowa, etc..

Oh and I forgot. F' Nebraska.
