    Re: Baylor is unbelievable

Dave Bliss was one of the shadiest guys in the business when Baylor hired him. I don't think a lot of people were surprised when that broke bad down there. "A blatant and sweeping disregard" for regulations, is how the NCAA described it:

The full list of major program violations included:
    • Bliss paying for tuition for two players, Dennehy and Herring[4] and attempting to conceal it.
    • Coaching staff providing meals, transportation, lodging and clothing to athletes.
    • Coaching staff paying for tuition and fees for a recruit at another school.
    • Bliss's encouragement of school boosters to donate to a foundation tied to a basketball team that included prospective Baylor recruits.
    • Failure to report positive drug test results by athletes.
    • Failure by the entire coaching staff to "exercise institutional control over the basketball program."

Other improprieties of a lesser nature were also discovered.

While Scott Drew hasn't been pinned with any cheating (other than some minor recruiting violations) I found it very interesting when CBS polled college basketball coaches last season about who was the biggest cheater in the sport, John Calipari and Drew led the field by a mile.

Critical Coaches: Who is perceived to be the biggest cheater in the sport? - CBSSports.com

Just my opinion, but if Drew suddenly takes another job, duck and cover.

All of those are on Bliss and his staff, not the university at large. How is that a history of outside influence? It's one corrupt coach that was hired and retained by an inept former AD who's last name (Stanton) is used as a profanity filter on some Baylor sites now. (Along with Kevin Steele's)

Name me a banner recruit prior to our elite 8 runs and I can tell you how we landed them, it really was a rarity. Now the issue I see with people's perception of Drew is the following:

-"How is Baylor good? They MUST be cheating!" is almost a default knee jerk, and I have seen random fans even in Football make the baseless claim when there really isn't any evidence to it. It's 1/4 that-

    - People (A) forget how long it took for him to start landing bigger recruits and (B) overrate the talent he does bring in. So people who haven't been watching assume it's like Ole Miss football that landed tons of high level recruits ONE YEAR after being mediocre under a new coach. It's simply not remotely the same but that doesn't mean john doe doesn't view it that way.

    - The "who has signed a McDonalds All American?" sign and other similar recruiting tactics that while legal, certainly would **** others off. Ignoring how the Dennehy tragedy was certainly used against us, I can see the anger and where it would come from. To me it's 1/4 this as well.

    - The final 1/4 is pairing 1 and 2 with Drews happygolucky/upbeat/churchboy image that is probably as endearing as sandpaper outside Waco.

The telling quote for me in that article is: "He's despised by a lot of people because he comes off holier than God."

He's done a good job at BU, but I can see why people may not like him in the profession and I do think what I outlined above is the big reason for the perception.

Maybe I am just a cynic from watching college sports too long. But arguing that BU being one of only 3 SWC teams not sanctioned by the NCAA is like arguing who is the most innocent gal at the whore house.

Look, I don't begrudge the defense of your school and programs. I expect it and it should be commended. I'd expect Calipari supporters to say the same thing. But the perception isn't a fabrication by those who don't like that Scott Drew sings his heart out at church.

With the way teams turned each other in back then (one of the reasons SMU got busted) it's a pretty good mark to not have been hit.

I am not saying it's some intentional fabrication. It's simply a combo of the 4 things I listed and the religious angle simply serves to amplify the other 3.

If you cut it up and burn it, how will you use it next game?

Their last game is Texas, it's already been confirmed it won't be put back on. Iowa State was the last to experience The Tarp.
