OK...was watching my hometown team play tonight. They received the kickoff in the first half. They only had 7 offensive plays in the first quarter. The score? 56-0 in their favor. Wow. The extra play was the one 2nd down they had during that period. The opening kickoff was returned for a TD. Every 2 point conversion worked (I didn't count those as "offensive" plays). JV enters the game at that point and team goes on to win 84-6.
ďUrgency,Ē Rhoads said. ďThatís exactly what I told our staff. Itís exactly what I told our players. Urgency in getting your job done. Thatís in a 100 percent rate of speed at executing your responsibility ó whether itís a fit, whether itís a tackle, whether itís a route, whether itís a cut-off block. Everybody needs a little bit more urgency in coaching and playing.Ē
You forgot to mention it was 8-man football. One missed tackle in that game and the offense scores. I know I lost a game coaching 56-49. Neither team punted and we had two turnovers to their one. We were ranked 5th in the state at the time and the opponent was #1.
Yup. Scores got out of hand when the got rid of the 50pt rule and went to the 35pt running clock thing. I was doing a radio show when that rule change came out and I bet the host that someone would score 100 that year because some ******** coach would play his starters the entire first half. I was right and won twenty bucks.
