Re: 3 Thoughts on Thursday: David Irving's "light" came on vs. Iowa

I keep saying it, but there's a chance that ISU has a pretty good DL next year. Irving, Coe, Jensen and Morrissey will be SRs. Cousins and Aka will get some snaps this year and should be ready to go next year. They need to fill the other DE position, but Meyers has some upside. And, they still have Kron, Lemke and Waggoner. Probably need a JUCO DE just to up the competition there. OL is in the same boat...tons of underclassmen seeing time this season in Dagel, Burton, Lalk plus a couple of JRs with a lot of snaps already in Farniok and Gannon. Most people believe that winning games begins on the lines and ISU should be salty on both next season even though they're taking their lumps this year.

Would be nice if Pompey can somehow find his way back to the team too.

Would be nice to sign about 4-5 DL recruits this year but fat chance. You know it's a tough position to recruit when Texas takes 3 stars. Not much left of the good guys when that all trickles down.

Irving is at his most effective playing DE. A few times he as able to use his length to make the play but he also spent a lot of time on the ground and/or his backside. Needs to learn to play with leverage for 60 minutes

his improvement for UNI to Iowa was impressive. If he keeps improving, and get a little more consistent he is going to be a beast in conference play.

Re: 3 Thoughts on Thursday: David Irving's "light" came on vs. Iowa

Best case scenario - Irving becomes a guy who can play a tackle and an End - as needed.

Maybe if Aka and Cousins really develop, he can go back out the the DE spot.

Re: 3 Thoughts on Thursday: David Irving's "light" came on vs. Iowa

I was really pleased with Irving vs Iowa. He blew up the line a couple of times and had a few good hits on the QB, forcing one fumble. Agree that he approved tremendously from game 1 to game 2. Now, just needs to continue that kind of improvement from week to week.

Did you watch the game last week? He did far more there than he ever has at DE.

    I'm on Twitter too: Tre4ISU

    Or so I have read.

Apparently our coaching staff thinks differently.

Re: 3 Thoughts on Thursday: David Irving's "light" came on vs. Iowa

One of my favorite plays of the Iowa game was when Irving clothes lined the Iowa RB for little to no gain.

Edit: It can be seen at the 0:45 mark of this video...

Once again agree with Tre. He was man against Iowa, they couldn't block him. Despite his height he looks to be a natural for DT.
