DM Register Article - ISU Coaches Close to benching Richardson

Wow. Talk about throwing your player under the bus and not taking any ownership. Messingham should be fired for just being an idiot.

    http://blogs.desmoinesregister.com/d...ealthy/article

“It’s easier to get into a rhythm when you’re moving the ball in some chunks, and keeping yourselves out of third-and-long,” Messingham said.“That’s what we’ve got to do. That will allow me to get into a rhythm and keep moving the chains to give us an opportunity to score. We’ve got to put ourselves in position to make those plays.”
Doing that includes having a healthy quarterback. The ankle injury prevented Richardson from being much of a rushing threat. The sprain also made planting his foot before throwing awkward.
    The result wasn’t pretty.
“The throws that we threw downfield in the first half — a couple of them we threw out of bounds,” Messingham said. “I tell our guys every week, (they) watch Sports Center just like the rest of us do. On Sports Center, those plays are being made. Those balls are getting thrown where people can catch them.”
Richardson was so inconsistent that he nearly was pulled after halftime in favor of Grant Rohach. Iowa State is the only Big 12 team where one quarterback has taken each snap.
“Very close. Very close, especially after the first half,” Messingham said when asked if Richardson neared the end of his leash.
“(Richardson) had a number of poor throws. He’s got to give the wide outs balls that they can catch.

It appears that the media can manipulate him even more effectively than opposing defenses. This guy is a dud. He has cost ISU games and this may cost us recruits.

"Watch Sportscenter" has to be the dumbest advice I've seen from a professional coach.

Am I the only one that thinks Richardson is by far the best player on the team so far?

That's pretty sensational journalism. They were going to sit him because of his injury, not straight out performance.

I'm not really impressed or displeased with him. Just waiting for him to prove himself either way.

And what tre said. That's pathetic journalism right there. Way to get the whole story!

Since we are an elite team now, let's go get that One Cyclone Moment.

Yeah, it is a bad headline and article from the DMR. Deadspin/Bleacher Report/Huffington Post-like headline.

It's hard to argue with anything that looks like accountability. Good for Mess if he's actually going to wear his big-boy pants and start holding players accountable. Now if only he had followed through on his threat. I personally think Rohach should have been starting, just to give Sammy some rest. If he had been kept out of the Iowa game, and counting the bye-weeks, he would have had a month to rest that ankle and be 100% for Tulsa.

IMO, Rhoads is just hurting his self-image keeping Mess on staff. Mess is making this program a complete mess, and I'm nearly positive he was hired he just because he and Rhoads have some history together.

Friendships can't affect your work, Rhoads.

I don't get it. Sure, there is such a thing as player accountability, but a big part of coaching management is managing player relationships. You don't throw your qb under the bus like this when he is hurt. This quote is especially telling as for personal accountability:

That will allow me to get into a rhythm and keep moving the chains to give us an opportunity to score. We’ve got to put ourselves in position to make those plays.”

These quotes make me cringe. It just doesn't seem like something that would motivate a player. In fact, it seems like it would do just the opposite.

Did we even attempt a pass more than 5 yards against Iowa in the first half? My God 2nd and 21 and we're running 4 yard pass routes.

300 yards of offense per game with shoddy play calling, a bum ankle, and poor line play with injuries of its own...Doesn't matter if it was against Iowa and UNI, I think he is MVP of the team so far

Watch sports enter? Wow! Maybe you should watch sports center coach to learn how to run an offense. If Richardson is not healthy enough put rohach in till he is ready.
