IOWA STATE ATHLETICS STATEMENT ON LOCKER ROOM THEFT

“Upon learning that multiple items were taken from the Iowa football locker room Saturday night, Athletics Director Jamie Pollard visited personally with Iowa A.D. Gary Barta and Coach Kirk Ferentz to express his regret for the incident.

UI officials reported that nine victims suffered thefts of cell phones and/or approximately $50 in total. Additionally, no vandalism to the area was noted or reported. An investigation, conducted by ISU Police, is on-going. If the person(s) responsible are not identified, ISU Athletics will reimburse those who suffered losses.

It is an unfortunate situation, and unusual, in that the Jacobson Athletic Building has contracted security detail on site before, during and after games. The ISU Police and the athletics department responded quickly and thoroughly when alerted to the situation and have assured Iowa officials they are committed to seeking answers and improving security in this area.”

Glad they are being upfront about it. How much worse can Iowa State look these past few weeks? Utterly embarrassing.

"Iowa State" didn't break into the locker room. "Iowa State" did what it was supposed to do when it learned of a bad situation. No reasonable person would think that "Iowa State" sanctioned it or condones it. So no, I don't really care what mouth-breathing Hawk fans think.

If this same thing happened in Iowa City and Iowa officials responded in the way Pollard et al are responding I would be completely satisfied.

I'm not sure how embarrassing it is. It is bad, but it was dealt with. It would be embarrassing if they didn't respond.

Does Jacobson have any security cameras outside the locker rooms?

If I were the police, I'd start here...

Whose to say it wasnt someone associated with the IA football team that would've easily had access and also known when players/coaches were going to be in there.

Re: IOWA STATE ATHLETICS STATEMENT ON LOCKER ROOM THEFT

If it turns out that someone in the employment or associated with Iowa State was involved in the theft, then it would certainly be embarrassing. But at this point, I don't see anything embarrassing. It appears to have been well-handled.

Will the responsible party be considered for offensive coordinator?

Rumor has it that the cell phone had all 10 of Iowa's plays on it. Sadly, that was all they needed Saturday night.

Not saying this happened, but this was my first thought. Seems to make the most sense.

Imagine that. An athletic department faced with a sticky, potentially embarrassing situation that chooses to be forthright with the media and the public and do what it can to make the situation right, rather than stonewalling and denying it ever happened.

Taking notes, Sally Mason and Gary Barta?

"Iowa State" did lose to Northern Iowa and Iowa at home in front of 2 sell out crowds, that is embarrassing.

“One day we’ll be in here celebrating a Big 12 championship,” Rhoads said. “That I can promise you.”

"I hope to coach here until I retire," Hoiberg said.
