If CPR was born anywhere else, would he be getting a lot more criticism?

It is amazing to me the level of criticism that CPR is NOT getting. We are looking at the possibility of a winless season, and get fans seem singularly focused on the offensive coordinator. Before Messingham, fans were focused on his predecessor. It is like fans want to complain about the coaching, without directing any criticism at all at CPR. Guess what, CPR hired both coaches. Is the lack of criticism at CPR because he happened to be born near Ames? If we was born 200+ miles in any direction, would he be much more on the "hot seat"?

Yep. I don't think the seat would be incredibly hot yet based on his first four years, but CPR is definitely getting more leeway than a lot of other coaches would.

I've wondered the same. I think that has a lot to do with it, plus he is a rah rah guy which always gives you another 4-5 years at ISU. We will probably win 1-2 games this year, 3-4 the year after, and 5-6 the year after that. Then we will rebuild again. As long as he gives a good speech he will have a job here.

I think Cyclone fans are pragmatic enough to realize that it would be difficult to successfully replace the whole chain, when ejecting the link that performs like a wet noodle could be sufficient.

Re: If CPR was born anywhere else, would he be getting a lot more criticism?

I've come to the conclusion that CPR is the best that ISU can do. We will never recruit well enough to win more than 2-3 B12 games. Playing in a weak B12 North is never happening again. Ames is a tough draw for recruiting. Maybe the toughest in the BCS. And ISU is among the worst BCS teams in regards to tradition, etc. At least Paul wants to be here.

6-6 is the ceiling for the most part, with an occasional, 7 or 8-win season every 15 years.

There are plenty of other college teams out there, go find another one to support.
    You aren't a "TRUE" cyclone.
    Just a fair weather one.
The loss is not about you or your feelings.
Have your temper tantrum some where else.
Adversity is a part of life.
How we deal with it builds character, either get better, fix the problems, soon succeed.
Then their is your way just complain.
As a child you must have thrown temper tantrums when ever things didn't go your way.
Dude, 50% of all the teams lost yesterday, not just us.
I'll hang with CPR and his coaches, you go find another team.

CYCLONE for the whole season and beyond.

I'm done hearing you can't get Big 12 players to come to Ames. Recruit more Juco's. I'm sick of it. You can win games in Corvalis, OR, Pullman, WA, or K-State you can in Ames. No excuse with the parity in football these days to be in the cellar every year. Btw, I agree that 7-8 wins in the best you could ever do here, but we are not even close to that in year 5.

Look, the season isnt over. We might end up winless. Or we might sneak a win or two. Regardless, he has done things ar ISU that few other coaches have done. Lets not be one of those fanbases that over react and then regret it later.

These one liners are all candidates for the 2014 poster. Early favorite is

"Dude, 50% of all the teams lost yesterday, not just us."

    This.

These are now all his players and we are trending the wrong direction. This is a problem.

To be honest, if CPR isn't from Ankeny, he isn't a BCS HC.
