    Brun had Rhabdo??!!

Looks like we can no longerake fun of Iowa for the Rhabdo case. This is what caused Brun to cramp vs UNI.

Naw, still can mock them. One guy on the team getting it in 100 degree weather is a lot different than half the team getting it during winter conditioning workouts.

As much as I love creatine this is a side effect. I took a ton of creatine during my time a swear by it, but there was always the side effect of taking to much playing with your kidneys or liver that you had to watch out for.

    Re: Brun had Rhabdo??!!

I don't see anywhere in that article that it says Brun had Rhabdo?

Either way, nothing would surprise me. Sounded like all off season that Brun was a workout warrior. He might have overdone it?

I actually had kinda started wondering to myself after watching Yancy McKnight talk about the treadmill workouts if there was a possibility of working out too much? Sometimes I think the human body can only take so much.

With the levels that these guys train, its vital to stay well hydrated and have a great diet. It's really easy to skimp on one of those 2, if not both, without even knowing it.

That being said, who knows if that was the case with Brun, but definitely plausible.

I will be surprised if Brun plays for a while. You can die from his condition and it is a matter of the kidneys recovering. Severe muscle breakdown is nothing to take lightly

Yeah, I'm wondering the same thing. I just hope that ISU does what's best for Ernst Brun, that's all.

Sounds to me like he probably shouldn't be playing tonight. With next week also being another bye week, that would give him another 2 weeks to get his kidneys functioning properly. Kinda scary really.

    Re: Brun had Rhabdo??!!

I got Rhabdo from working out too hard in college and the following is based on my understanding of what the doctor told me about it. The major concern is that the CPK can crystallize in the Kidney and cause renal failure. Once those levels are down and his electrolytes are back to normal, he should be able to safely return to practice/playing quicker than you'd think. It took me I think 4 days in the hospital before my levels got back down to normal, but after that I was okay and I could pretty much do what I wanted. I definitely was careful about it, though. It was probably the most sick I have ever felt and I am glad Brun is okay. Wouldn't wish Rhabdo on anyone.
