    Bill was a couple years older than me at Hudson, and we had some talented sports teams when he was there. I remember those FB games and BBall games against Aplington-Parkersburg well and it became quite the rivalry.

    It was cool to see Bill be part of that 1997 team that beat Iowa...even if at the time I was a huge Hawkeye Fan (forgive me for my eastern Iowa brainwash). At the time...I had no memory of Iowa State beating Iowa (I was 17).

    Bill Marsau was a damn good lineman. Wish he had some eligibility still.

    I thought it was interesting (and classy) that Bill felt sorry for the loser Hawkeye who laughed at him a year earlier.

    Ya probably he and Coach Mac still talk quite a bit. Bill is my neighbor and a hell of a guy, even though he could still crush me like a bug to this day. He did get me a coach Mac autographed North Texas program in Macs first year down there.

    After reading that, clearly the guy missed his calling as a writer. An excellent read, and a big thanks to him and that 1998 team for making football fun again.

    I remember that day 9AM kick-off here where I lived in California watched it at a sports bar with fellow Cyclones.. I think I got home from the sports bar like at 1AM the next day. That was one long day of celebrating. I was really drunk but I was really happy. :-)

    Great read. Unrelated question, though. I was looking up stats from the 1997 season (woof) and our only win was Baylor. So... when did Baylor get good? Is there a specific point or year or has it been a gradual rise? When I was in school (2002-2007) Baylor was the only "sure thing".

    This is cracked me up:
    Coach Mac called up the offense and was very serious when he told us that we needed to get the first down and that if we didn’t we would need to figure out what position we were going to play on defense because he would not send the defense out onto the field.

    In 2008 Art Briles got hired from Houston and they entered this year with three straight winning seasons. He's an offensive genius and he has gotten some high profile recruits on that side of the ball.

    Back to the OP, great read. People don't always realize how important Coach Mac was for Cyclone football.
