Iowa State hosting a trio of recruits

    Hey Fanatics,

Just a heads up... the Iowa State women's basketball team will be hosting a trio of prospects this weekend, according to a source.

Emily Durr - a 2014 commit - will be making her official visit to Ames. The guard from Utica, NY gave her pledge to the Cyclones in May.

Also in for Saturday's game is Meredith Burkhall and T'aire (TT) Starks on unoffical visits. Burkhall is a junior at Des Moines Roosevelt, while Starks hails from Brooklyn Park, Minnesota.

Boo Williams-April 2013: Cerebral perimeter performer executes, reads spacing, fades on screens; footwork with unique release on jumper to the arc; deceptively quick; a specializer, shooter (Olson)

From the ESPN Site Emily gets a 95 rating. That is very good though ESPN can be suspect. I really am intriqued by this player.

We stole Durr out from the noses of a lot of top east schools.

It is doubtful that we will end up with Burkhall, but add Starks with Durr and we would add to our overpowering backcourt. I just wish the football team would have performed better, but the crowd was fantastic for the game.

If you go to the web CY-hawk Fan cam all the ladies may be seen there in attendance. Emily stands out, Hallie and in particular too, as does Nikki and Maddie. I think Jensen has her head turned. Guests may be identified too with a little work.Go here and to the right sideline Section 28 on the 20-30 yard line. You also may see Niang and other mens players and recruits mixed in. D-1 schools in Iowa do not benefit from homegrown WBB talent as we lose more than comes to our state schools. Sure, we got Jadda and Hallie (overlooked and not highly rated) and get a few Top 100 recruits from other states. But look at top fifty players that have abandoned in-state schools in the last three years: Haley Lorenzen, Kiah Stokes,Taylor Greenfield, Maddie Manning and maybe Shaya Kellogg.

Top recruits are loathe to play for Iowa State or Iowa and seek adventures in NCAA WBB elsewhere. From what I have heard and read Burkhall falls into that category. We have to choke on this bitter pill while scouring the country and settle for unproven front line players who commit then leave before even playing a game. If not for White going to IL, Nebraska does not seem to have suffered this problem as example.

Did BF offer Maddie Manning? I understood that he didn't.

Abandoned? Like they have some obligation or responsibility to stick around? When Geno and Tara come calling, it's pretty hard to say no.

It's the same as a kid choosing North Carolina for MBB, or Alabama for FB. You're losing in-state kids (who happen to be top national recruits) to the nation's elite programs. You aren't losing them to the Northern Colorados and Ball States of the world.

Do I have to define abandon? They are are gone. We do not have their talents and we are lesser for it.

Look at what we get out of the Poppens of the world. Just think if we had a few more of our top kids stay. The point is we fight an uphill battle as we get less back (if you go by player rankings which cannot be entirely dismissed) than we get. We owe what results we do get from facilities, training, hard work, coaching and fan support.

You may ascribe my beliefs to some provincial idealism but the fact is we suffer a talent drain.

When it comes to implication, I'd say there's a huge difference between "leaving the state" and "abandoning the state". You decided to take the dramatic route.

Re: Iowa State hosting a trio of recruits

I think some just want to get away from home, others can't say no to the big- time program. The good ones that have stayed and gone to ISU lately have done as good or better than higher rated ones hat left. Kelsey Bolte, Alison Lacey, Chelsea Poppens, and Hallie Christopherson. I fully expect Jadda Buckley to join that group. I'd love to have that group as my starting five.
