The real question is, can you do that while playing so many guys? Game No. 1 didn't impress anybody. Let's give the guy a few more weeks before pulling out the pitchforks. Just my opinion and I'm wrong all of the time.

This is all I read. Sorry.

After reading this board for the last 2 weeks, I really want to see us put up 50 point against Iowa just to get people off of Mess's back. I agree with some of the criticism, but so many people take it way way way too far and make it way to personal.

I would love to hang 50 on them. It means our offense in general figured it out.

I agree. Criticize the performance, not the performer.

Re: 3 Thursday Thoughts: Messingham on RB usage; recruiting; Big 12 picks

I'm going to get killed on this but I haven't seen any statistical evidence that supports the notion that RB's need to get in a "rhythm" to perform better.

IMO, the issue is the OL in that it isn't allowing our RB's to get into space where they can make people miss. WR blocking on end-arounds could be better too.

This is fine, but IMHO he just called out the running backs for an issue that they didn't create. We all need to remember when you point there are three fingers pointing back at you.

    Some truth to this...

I ranted a bit in my post earlier, but I would love nothing more than for him to prove me wrong. I just dont see it happening.

And Troy Davis would be one of the "or" in this offense with this OL and this coordinator. Reading this made me pessimistic about progress over the last two weeks. Still hoping but with a hell of a lot less faith.

Completely agree, I hope he does prove me wrong. It is just I feel we will have to win inspite of him not because or with him. Which is a horrible way to feel in the second game of the season.

Frankly, I'd say the vast majority of criticism has been performance related. Very few are insulting Messingham as a person. The focus is on him as OC. If you cannot critique a highly paid professional based on his job performance (which is a reflection of his ability to do the job), then what?

I'd love to see 50 pts against IA too. But even the person who posted that knows it won't happen.

I would agree that there is no "quantitative data" to support it. However, use some common sense. How many times have you seen a basketball player struggle at the tip only to shoot better as the game goes on. How many times have you seen a pitcher struggle throwing strikes but gets better as the game progresses? How many times have you seen a golfer miss putts on the front nine but figure it out on the back nine. How many times have you seen RB's get 2-5 yards per carry for the first 10 to 12 carries then break one off for 60? It happens in every sport. It's called "finding a rhythm". Remember NBA game 6 last year? If Lebron quits shooting after he misses all of those shots early in the game, the Spurs win the championship because he would not have found a rhythm to hit that 3 pointer to tie it late in the 4th. Also, because he found his rhythm it carried over to game 7 and he was lights out. Once again, you are correct in there is no statistical data to support the theory, but there are plenty of practical instances for which it has occurred.

ISU didn't even run the ball poorly versus UNI. If not for the sacks, I think they would've averaged 5+ yds/carry and gone for 200 or so. And that's without the RBs breaking anything big. It was still only against UNI, but I'm not sure why people are using this against Messingham.
