I say use play action as Iowa has scouted and knows the tendancy of running on 1rst & 2nd down trying to establish the run. Lining up TE right and slot left. White right of QB Wimberly behind. Slot motions to right side of formation. Fake to White up the middle. First read the slot who motioned to right if he beats corner biting on fake, on fly pattern. Second is TE who fakes block & releases to flat. Next option SE left on a post. Check on White behind LBs. Outlet Wimberly slipping out left.
I don't know about the first play, but i think we should run on 1st OR 2nd down at least 70% of the time. It seems to me that when teams do that they leave themselves more optiosn on 3rd down. Maybe I'm wrong but it feels like we have to0 many incomplete/short completions on 1st and 2nd down leaving an obviouse pass on 3rd down.
If were going to pass on the first play of the game then i want it to be a shot downfeild. If not run it up the middle with Woody right away.
Richardson gets the play call looks up at the Box and gives a double one finger solute turns to the team and calls a 5 wide fly, up top to Wimberly for the score. Messingham looks over to the guy next to him and says, "Who do they think they are? The New York Jets."
