Re: Monday Musings: Why the season is still salvageable

I agree that the season is still salvageable. From 2012 to 2003 there have been two teams that lost to an FCS school and still had a winning record at the end of the season (Virginia Tech in 2010 and Michigan in 2007). Just because a team has lost to an FCS school doesn't mean the season is over.

I agree that the season is salvageable, but the salvage works is contingent on the offensive lightbulb coming on against Iowa, and staying on to the tune of 30+ ppg during the conference season (that probably should be more like 35+ ppg).

Thanks CW. I needed that to help me recover from the UNI game. I suspect that you are right. In a weak Big 12, there are more "winnable games" that previously thought. Now, let's go out and win them, starting with EIU.

Hey Chris, guess what, I agree with you. I agree that the season is still salvageable.

I also agree with you though, that in order for that to be true, we have to beat Iowa. You have said it yourself, and you say it again in this Monday Musings that the Iowa game is a must win. I agree.

So, if we would happen to lose on Saturday, you will be the first one to admit on here that this season is toast, right? I mean, in terms of reaching any of the goals set forth by Rhoads and the team of finishing in the top half of the Big 12 and making a bowl game. Because if so, if you truly mean that, then I do agree with you. But if you don't mean it, then why do you keep saying that it's a must win?

I guess that all depends on what you consider "toast" to be. If not going to a bowl game equals "toast," then yeah, I'd agree with that. I can't see this team winning five Big 12 games, which it would have to do.

Not all of it but the example I gave in Musings certainly is. I've yet to meet anybody who can accurately predict the future, all of the time and be correct.

Have you watched any big 12 games? I'd say it's a bit early to hinge the season on one game - yet we do it every year and every week... if we beat Iowa then Tulsa is a must win... if we beat Tulsa then Texas on a Thursday is a must win. blah blah blah

Re: Monday Musings: Why the season is still salvageable

We've quickly gotten used to bowl games under Rhoads. I am doubtful that they'll make it to 6 this year. But....I still think they can win a few and be in a good position to have a much better year next year.

The more I think about the UNI game, the more I think that they were just laughably bad. I hesitate to say that they can't be any worse or as bad in any other games, but it wouldn't surprise me if they don't look near in any game this year.

I don't know if it needs to be "salvaged". I mean, sure, we took a torpedo against UNI, but I don't think that we're foundering, let alone resting on the bottom.

    Yet.

    Paul Rhoads' players never quit.

I explained what I meant by "toast" in the very next sentence. "Toast" means that we don't achieve any of the goals set out by Rhoads, his staff, and the players of finishing in the top half of the Big 12 and making it to a bowl game.

I'm glad you can stick by your words though. Good job.

2 teams out of ten years doesn't make me feel a whole lot better.
