Malchow probably hit on a good deal of ISU's problem Saturday

    2:00 Timeout:

2:00 Timeout | A blog by Steve Malchow

Half of your starters? That is crazy.

Who is making excuses? It's a fact that wasn't even pointed out by the coaching staff. Losing half of your starters will affect the efficiency of your team.

There is no excuse for the flaming turd, UNI had 1st time starters also. We were flat out muscled on the lines.

Need to keep that pipeline filled so there isn't such a dramatic dropoff when your starters graduate (cough, LB, DT, cough).

I never suggested it was an excuse. However, I'm pretty sure very few fans realized the scale of the retooling of the starting lineup.

No argument there. Too bad the LB pipeline has been so damned leaky the past few years.

True....and part of the reason I hope people are patient if we have a rough year. Filling that pipeline takes time...heck we're still working on getting FBS level talent at every position, let alone with backups. I think (hope?) we're getting to the point that we are getting good talent for starters, but they're YOUNG. Luke Knott got in the game because JM has an FBS frame but not the skills, but Luke's young. Sure, you can say we should recruit better, but we're overcoming the 20 year hump of the stigma of being crappy football team. We're getting there, but we're going to have people not pan out. Like CPR once said....for ISU, it's not the ones that get away that hurt, it's the ones you get who don't pan out.

Jeremiah George wasn't a first time starter. And he played an atrocious game. Same for Lichtenberg. And In fact a lot of of first time starters like Lalk and Rogers played a pretty decent game. This loss was not at all on inexperience.

It's been since 10-27-12 since we looked good in a football game (don't bring Charlie Weiss in here) no matter what eleven were playing.

if you word it that way, I can agree with you. There were some first time starters who have taken an absolute beating on these boards over their play.

Yes and no. Guys like Richardson and Miller on defense might have been "first time starters" but they both have a lot of playing experience under their belts.

Re: Malchow probably hit on a good deal of ISU's problem Saturday

These are pretty bad excuses. We got out-played and out-coached, pretty simple. Im not fretting on it, but that's what happened. The great thing about the season is it goes on and every game is another chance to show up.

And in that article, Burton, Ecby, maybe Lalk, Rogers, and Sam Richardson were the only that this poor excuse could apply to.

Irving, Morrissey, Coleman (he has had 2 years of experience, 50 catches, I don't care where), Jensen, Miller, Brackens have all played plenty.

We just need to make the necessary adjustments and come ready for battle next Saturday. If certain personnel (coaches or players) can't step up to the plate and improve, then we need to make sure that we have the right people in place. Whether that be switching play calling duties (I am not a fan, but I doubt Rhoads cans Mess), or switching up players. I think Luke Knott needs to be playing the whole game. Wally recognizes this and I can bet we see a lot of him.

I will say this. Players that preformed well on Defense got the time they deserved. Players that preformed well on offense were rotated too often. Our top WR (Coleman) was not in that many snaps. Wimberly, in my opinion, is our best back from what I saw. He needs to be in the backfield or slot a lot more.

Sorry, just my two cents worth, haven't really spoken much about the game, but this article is just making silly excuses and trying to push the blame around when to me its pretty obvious where it should lie.
